If the figures quoted are correct, it's a bargain: â¬18 million = £15,350,000, and â¬3 million a year is roughly £50k a week. I thought we'd be paying a lot more than that for him.
I think it's important to consider the variation in financial strength between any EPL club and any Italian club. They really are in a poor economic situation as a nation (much worse than ours) and they don't have the same sort of Sky money as we get which essentially allows us to offer salaries on a different level to those pertinent to Italy. So it's highly likely that our offer would be a big increase on what he already earns.
http://www.romagiallorossa.it/featured/osvaldo-va-via-oggi-lannuncio/ "A Osvaldo first of all: it remained in Rome. Why? Unofficially it is the middle of a negotiation that is about to close at any moment . (...) It is going to close. He might as well not bring it to Terni. But in Terni Osvaldo has not come for other reasons. For example, to spare the usual heavy challenge on a personal basis that has been going on for months. Unofficial apology from his entourage, he played 90 minutes with the national team, is fatigued. Osvaldo yesterday morning he trained in Trigoria, away from prying eyes and ears while Sabatini has tried to put an end to a deal that has been going on for some time. We are in the details, but the details were there already a few days ago, when in London Baldissoni and Sabatini had already closed with Southampton: 18 million plus bonuses to Rome, 3 million per season for 4 years Osvaldo that yesterday had pronounced the 'inevitable ni. (...)" Apparently it isn't too early for related articles! It basically backs the other one up.
If we were to sign him, do you guys think he will start ahead of Lambert. Not instantly of course, but over the course of the season.
Apparently they can't find a pen. The shops are shut. Southampton is penless. This could wreck the deal. Quick, someone with a pen (that works, please check it works before leaving the house) get down to St Mary's pronto!
http://www.football-italia.net/38475/osvaldo-saints-lamela-renewal? Saints getting Osvaldo could lead to Spurs not getting Lamela. That would be sweet xD
Not sure Roma were ever looking to sell Lamela to be honest. I like how the Osvaldo price is coming down though, €13m in that article, that really would be a bargain
