I find it hard to believe that people dont want to improve out CB position. Look how much it improved us bringing Bassong in? Imagine having 2 players with the quality of Bassong defensively! Both Bennett and Turner are good players but I worry about them playing together. Bassong is clearly our no1 CB and If we could bring anyone else in at near his level I would be very happy.

Signing Fer should also allow Howson to play in his natural position AM!!

I can't understand the suprise at us wanting a CB - we bid for Alderweireld earlier this summer, so it's clearly something Hughton's keen on. As mentioned, without Bassong we still look vulnerable. If we could guarantee that Bassong would be fit for 35+ games next season, I'd happily have us sign no more CBs, but we can't.

Sorensen would be a brilliant signing - not quite as good as Alderweireld, but there's too much interest in him now and we were probably always unlikely to pull that off. Sorensen, from the little I've seen, looks fantastic.

As for AM - yes, that would be nice. Toivonen would be great. However, we have an AM who, on his day, can change a game in an instant (Hoolahan), though admittedly his consistency leaves a little to be desired. We have another who finished last season fantastically and we now has potential to burn (Howson). Of course, these could always be improved upon and Toivonen would represent such an improvement, but I don't think it should be the be all and end all. I'm extremely pleased with what I've seen so far - I think we are genuinely trying to keep the ball better and take pressure off our defence, which will naturally allow more men further forward. Comments made by Johnson the other day also suggest that Hughton even wants him to be getting forward more and scoring goals - and he is the most disciplined of our CMs.

Just because you aren't hearing about things, it does not mean they are not happening.

Also, I've no idea why you think signing a new centre back signals a potentially more defensive approach? It is just improving the options we have in that area.

exactly. the hooper deal went quiet for months but it was always rumbling on in the background. for what its worth i know nothing about sorenson but we do need another centre back if possible. i'm still (naively, most probably) holding out for alderweireld...

I really, really don't want Alberweireld to go to Liverpool as I've stuck Kolo Toure in my dream team this season (absolutely bargain at £3m and the scousers are all raving about him already)

For me, whilst a centre back would be desirable, I don't view it as essential. As others have suggested, a creative attacking midfielder is probably more pressing but I'm still fairly comfortable that we have enough about us should we fail to get one in before January.

Sorensen looks interesting, played for bologna last season but he is co-owned by Juve.

1.93m which I make over 6 foot, danish U21 international.

similar to R Bennett in age and stature but with slightly more experience

Absolutely shocking signing, one which smacks of desperation. Not only does the guy play very similarly to RVM and Hooper, as I mentioned before, neither of whom is an out and out striker - did Hughton even realise that? If so, other than Becchio, where is someone for that role? What will Elmander add other than one more person in the squad? For me, asomeone who was nothing more than a bit part player for Galatasaray last season, absolutely nothing. And he's 32! Dreadful decision.

I'm assuming it's a genuine account by the number of followers, even if it isn't verified.

Well we definitely needed a 4th striker, it looks like we've got one!

oh dear. there's so much wrong with this post i don't really know where to start.

i'm surprised if elmander is the 'chosen one' but that's not because he's a poor player - he is a very good footballer. i'm surprised because he's come out of the blue!
