He didn't have any real pre season with QPR so it was expected that he wouldn't make the City due to lack of match fitness. He could have picked up a calf injury in training I guess. I reckon he probably had a slight knock when we signed him, but as he wouldn't be training with the main group anyway (as he'll be behind on fitness levels) they most likely chose not to mention it in the hope that it healed. He's been doiing running sessions and I can only assume the injury hasn't reacted well to this which has now forced the club to announce the injury. What I will say is that last year Pardew announced that Cabaye and Ben Arfa had no chance of making our first game of the season against Spurs (they'd both only had 45 minutes game time pre season) and yet both players played the full match. So there's even a small chance that Pardew doesn't want West Ham & Fulham to know what line up we're going to with against them (he'll definitely miss the City game IMO).

I was in Edniburgh for a couple of shows at the Festival and took in Ardal's show last night and he has included a gag about the Newcastle fan punching the horse. It gets better the story that just keeps giving!
