http://coygooners.blogspot.ae/2013/08/arsenal-set-to-sign-colombian-midfielder.html If this is true, and we sign Perez, meaning we don't sign Gustavo, well let's just say it ain't going to be pretty. For Wenger's sake, this better not be true, because he will have a MUTINY on his hands from the stands if this is the case, you can bet it now once the results go bad, the play goes bad, the stands will vent their frustration at Wenger. Th frustration at Wenger is getting worse by the season, last season the anger at Wenger went up a notch when fans at the Villa away game (which I had the misfortune of attending) started chanting "you don't what you're doing" at Wenger, increasing the rhetoric from "SPEND SOME ****ING MONEY". So for the sake of UNITY, and POSITIVITY, and the club as a whole, Wenger needs to sign big time quality players, and not some unknown 20 year old after a trial. Now if we sign Perez and Gustavo, fine, but if we sign Perez only, then it's war.
Would love Benzema or Suarez at Arsenal (Lewandowski would be my first choice) but I also maintain that i think Wenger would get the best out of Rooney should we go in for him. Gustavo for £14 Million would be the best bit of business by an EPL club soo far this Summer.
I think Perez will come in and become the new youth DM in place of coq/frimpong in the squad. Gustavo would be a great addition to the team and i don't think it will depend on whether we sign Perez or not. Gustavo and one of suarez/rooney/benzema, along with sanogo and Perez would go a good way towards plugging the holes we currently have in the squad.
If we signed Gustavo and a new striker and get rid of bendtner and park we would look like this going into the new season - GK: Sczs, Flappy Defenders: Kosc, Mert, Verm, Sagna, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Monreal Midfielders: Arteta, Gustavo, Perez, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Cazorla Forwards: Suarez (or other), Giroud, Sanogo, Walcott, Oxocube, Podolski This is assuming Diaby's injury will keep him out the entire season (which is likely as he isn't estimated to be back until right near the end anyway and we know what he is like getting back to fitness) and doesn't include some exciting youngsters such as Zelalem and Myaichi who may play some part in the season but don't take up space in the main squad and are unlikely to be relied on (used for league cup etc if not loaned out). That squad is looking like it has a lot of quality in it and 2 players for almost every position (a winger and defender being 1 short, a striker extra) with some players also able to cover secondary positions. So it has decent depth. I'd say maybe add in a LWF (no idea who - any ideas?) and a utility defender (although with sagna and gustavo i think able to cover at CB it may be that only a youngster is needed) and we have a really healthy looking squad there/ I really hope it's not just rumours and we get Gustavo and one of our striker targets at the least during this transfer window.
Fully agree about Gustavo. Absolutely incredible to think that Manchester City paid something like £35 million for an inferior player.
The Guardian and Telegraph both claiming a £14M deal for Gustavo is almost done. They are also saying we are preparing a 3rd bid for Suarez. Jeremy Wilson says we will bid close to £50M for him.
Raphael Honigstein thoughts on LG: Pros - A real DM specialist, excellent cover for back 4. Can also play LB or CB. Great shot and good in the air. Cons: Passing range slightly limited, doesn't add that much to attack for teams who have loads of possession. Overall: Great signing and great value for any team looking for a tough DM
That is rubbish, for a holding midfielder he offers quite a lot. He has very good vision and can ping 50+ yard balls around with ease. He also has a very powerful shot from distance. He is also probably better at crossing than 90% of players at our club.
In any case, he is still a little way from being signed, he has yet to decide on future apparently. Agent fielding offers. I suspect Arsenal are favourites though. (This also from Honigstein) How awesome would it be if we could have him done before Villa?
Apparently tomorrow is the UEFA deadline for registering players for the play offs. Can anybody confirm this? Ridiculous if true.
Who do you rate more highly, him, Paulinho or Sandro? Should be an interesting contest when we play them at the Emirates in a few weeks. I was going to add.. if he even comes of course.
