I hear what you say but it still seems too low a figure as a start point if his 'real value' is nearly half as much as that again.
As it happened we only had one bid [as far as we know] but there could have been 3 or more clubs interested and had one of those been his desired destination - Real - no way would we have got them up to £55m from that 'low' start [low in terms of who the player is and not purely as a financial figure].
I know it wasn't a release clause as such, it's just easier calling it that than the clause that .......

you guys know the guy was singing a press tune one minute and once henry said his peice immediately changed his tune.
taylor was trying to line up a "lets all sit round so i can get suarez sold" party and next thing he's off on his bandwagon again.
Lesson... lay down with the dogs suarez and you are one... you accused the english media of all sorts, never taking any blame for your own actions then crawled to them and this guy who's been on your case every time..... In much the same way I'm sure Falcao couldn't have been dreaming about playing for Monaco - agreed his situation has a complicated 3rd party ownership arrangement -I don't think Suarez really wants to go to Arsenal or to the news with his story. I think he's getting terrible advice.
Why didn't his 'camp' advise him to go to the media to clear his name or at least to put his side forward like they are doing now? Probably because they made no money out of it like they will when he moves. His on field behaviour will always be remembered for what it is but he had it within his own hands to maintain his off field integrity, which was pretty much in tact ....

The whole business about the clause does not make sense. I think Suarez has been truly stitched up by the club and I am not surprised he feels quite annoyed.
What is this "amount to start talking" ? It simply has no benefit for the player and as you say the club could still say, we start talking at £40 million but we are selling the player at £200m.
I doubt Suarez would ave signed the new contract if he realised that the £40m was not a release figure..

Absolutely NOT true! From the earliest days of this saga the Suarez camp let it be known to the media that they asked for a specific written clause, but Liverpool said no, so they accepted a 'verbal agreement'. If Suarez feels stitched up he should ask why his team of hangers-on and shark of an agent advised him to sign when they KNEW Liverpool had rejected a specific written clause.
It truly is heart-warming to see all the sympathy for poor old badly done to Luis Suarez coming from all those fans of other clubs who until recently would've denied him the right to breathe.
For goodness sake why are we arguing? It wasn't a release clause and to keep calling it such only gives ammunition to the WUMS. The figure quoted was agreed by Suarez, his agent and LFC. As it is not a release clause then LFC would have been perfectly happy for it to be set where it was.
Obviously, Taylor is not a lawyer and therefore his opinion has no validity. It is fairly certain that the PFA legal advisers where present when the clause was released to him. However, his comments make clear that the PFA cannot support Suarez's claim that it was. But he still wants to act as arbitrator and negotiate a move for Suarez - Henry has told him where he can stick that notion (note also that there has been no further comment from the PFA since Henry's comments).
As for Suarez himself. When this affair started I said that he had no power and I believe that I have been justified. He has been TOLD that he must apologise to a number of people before there can be any form of reconciliation. If he continues to listen to hacks at the Guardian and Telegraph and refuses to do so then I can see him rotting in the reserves in the short term and ultimately falling fowl of an action for breach of contract.
Like many of you I would like his goals this season but I'm not sure that I can stomach the site of him in a Liverpool shirt.

If this is true then they could have a case, i have read that verbal agreements are binding in law so it would be wrong of Liverpool to renege on one.

True but it would also be a case of one word against the other; aka a long drawn out affair that neither party will want to do
Pretty much, or open to all sorts of interpretation, I mean if suarez can interpret a written contract and balls it up I don't trust him with a verbal agreement from over a year ago

Of course they are legally binding, but virtually impossible to prove without independent corroboration.
As you say, the case would take an age and still probably be inconclusive.
