Back after another mini-break - I can thoroughly recommend not going to work every day! Dunno about Homeric Old Moon, but not having Noble Mission - sorry!

NM will NEED a telescope to see where Telescope went to. I actually do like Noble Mission having lost lots on him previously, and it isn't his fault he was hyped far in excess of his ability, but if he wins tomorrow, I'll tenderise my todger with a meat mallet, fry it up and eat it in a burger bun <laugh>

ROTO - if you are around would really appreciate your view on Educate in 2.20 at Haydock tomorrow. I'm going to the course and know you have put this horse up a few times, clearly believing in its ability and so are there valid excuses on its last runs ???

I believe he has the right man on top tomorrow. If Johnny himself ran in the race with Fr. Ted on top he'd probably win he's in that vein of form at the moment :)

It's the Shergar cup tomorrow <doh>

I know all eyes will be on Telescope but the bet of that race without doubt is

David Livingstone EW @12-1

Telescope is still completely unproven and although he should win represents no value whatsoever but David Livingstone must be in the first three as far as I can see.

I'm on at 11s and I think its a very good price. At Royal Ascot he was full of running under a psychotic ride from Spencer who was waiting for a gap that was never going to arrive. Last time at York he definitely ran very flat in a muddling race where he was too keen. However, I found a conversation on twitter between Terry Norman (former yard planner) and Jamie Spencer which took place prior to the race where Norman said that Educate had only done one piece of work since his run at Ascot and he didn't think he was ready. Unfortunately for me, I didn't see it until after the race but I'm putting a line through that run. The booking of Murtagh clearly signifies to me that he's working very well at home and there is nobody riding better than Murtagh at the moment. There is no doubt in my mind he's much better than 99 on his best day and if he's on his game he has to go extremely close. Yard form is a bit of a worry though so definitely wouldn't be going in too heavily.

I would highly recommend backing Sennockian Star 11/2 as well though. 3 year olds have won 4 of the last 5 renewals from a fairly limited number of runners and the weight for age allowance is clearly a huge advantage in this race. Johnston's representative is the only 3 year old in the field and given that he's in ridiculously good form and looking very progressive I think it would be very folly to not have at least a saver. Couldn't go wrong with a few quid on the forecast as well.

1.30 Ascot

Saptapadi 14/1

I very much believe that Brian Ellison's 7 year old still retains a lot of his ability and having travelled like a dream at Goodwood when left with nowhere to go I think he's primed for a massive run in this. Saptapdi returned from an unsuccessful campaign in Australia and off a mark of 93 this well handicapped gelding looks like he'll need a penalty if he wants another crack at the Ebor - a race where he ran a blinder in 5th off an 12lb higher mark in 2011. Prior to that race, he was a very eye catching 5th in a Group 2 at York over 10f and which proceeded an equally eye catching 5th in a handicap over the same C+D off a mark of 105 in July 2011. After the 2011 Ebor, Brian Ellison brought Saptapadi over for a crack at the Melbourne Cup with stablemate Moyenne Corniche and although that adventure didn't work out (subsequently stayed in Australia with Jim Conlan; very poor) its great to see him back on British soil with Ellison where he has caught the eye on 3 of his 4 starts since returnig to the Yorkshire trainer. The first of which came at York in May over 1m4f off a 2lb higher mark where he shaped very encouragingly under a sympathetic enough ride when he only tired late on before disappointing at Pontefract in a Listed contest subsequently. I'm sticking a line through that run, however, and he again caught the eye on his last start earlier this month in the John Smith's Cup where. Having been settled in the rear of the field, Saptapadi travelled beautifully through the race but he looked to get caught tacked for speed over the 10f trip as he finished a very credible 7th beaten only 4L. Saptapadi stepped up to 1m6f on his last start at Goodwood (definitely best over long distances) and having never come off the bridle he found a wall of horses in front of him as Dane O'Neill saved him for another day. The handicapper relented a further 1lb for that and off a mark of 93 I think he has more than enough ability to be very competitive. He's up to 2m today for only the 2nd time in his career and on the first occasion he found no extra late on at Sandown's stiff track having pulled hard throughout and ran loose before the start and I have no doubt about his ability to stay the trip. If Ellison wants to get Saptapadi into Europe's richest handicap then he's going to need to pick up a penalty in the few weeks and you've got to assume he'll be trying very hard to do so today. I don't know a whole lot about Brazilian jockey Joao Moreira but the 3 time leading jockey in Singapore looks an accomplished rider in a few videos I've watched and I definitely feel a lot worse jockeys in the race could be on board. If getting a clean run of things, I think a massive run is on the cards and if he can land this contest then I definitely think he'll line up for another crack at the Ebor next month.

Morning all putting this up early as I may not be able to get on later . I will admit I havnt looked at all of the cards and definatly wont so If I get chance I will have to chose wisely. Firstly I am highly in agreance with Roto on sennockian star he is in good form and looks value , but I am going to side with an ew in this race at 25s with 4 places 1/4 odds it holds more value than the 5s on offer for sennockin thismorning, these two raced in a 10k race 15 days ago with sennockian 6lbs to the good , there was 3.5 lengths difference that day which shows sennokians form . I am going to side with VASILY ew who today runs 10 lbs lighter than his second place that day but only 2lbs*heavier*than sennockin on this run and at this distance every lb counts towards the finnish obviously I am putting trust in the claimer onboard kevin stott but I think he has a good enough record .and vasily has also been putting a run of form together. I will be attending a wedding later so you can guarentee there will be some decent picks today , so all please upset me when I reading the thread on sunday looking at all the winners.
I will also have small bets on swift cedar in the first at haydock findog and jessies spirit at Ayr all ew if the odds are ok win if they are low .
GOOD LUCK ALL

5.20 Top Notch Tonto

The owner of TNT switched his horses from the Mcinnes yard to that of Brian Ellison, and the horses have flourished, with three of his horses winning since the switch. This one looks set to run another good race over the C&D he won over last time out. The slightly slower ground should also help and I still think he is fairly handicapped despite a rise in the weights.

Then throw in Chesterfield in the Quixall Crossett cup, another improving horse and has a good name!!

Also Chesterfield -1 goal on the handicap in League 2, we normally beat Cheltenham and we are in fair form.

Blue Blood of The Day to watch out for:

CASUAL SMILE 2.25 Newmarket

A Sea The Stars filly out of Oaks winner Casual Look. Likely to need the run coming from the Balding yard, but one to definitely keep an eye on.

Want to see more of Gina Bryce and less of Rishi Persad on Channel 4 Racing after watching The Morning Line!

Today is judgement day for Telescope but he should win the Rose Of Lancaster at Haydock. However, I can't see him winning a Group 1 this season.

Have to agree with the Gina Bryce comment, she impressed me this morning (even through my fuzzy post alcohol state), much better presenter than certain Mssr Persad and far better than the turgid Emma Spencer. C4 let Gina continue to provide the coverage alongside Nick Luck and Clare Balding.

Emma Spencer is everything that is wrong about Horse Racing for me, if she wasn't from the family she is, she wouldn't be presenting on C4. Although from a similar sort of family, Clare Balding has proven herself a brilliant presenter and broadcaster, something Emma Spencer can only dream of. We are fortunate to have some brilliant presenters and knowledgeable people in the sport, and its criminal that people like Alistair Down don't get the jobs when Rishi and Emma S do.

Nass, Alistair Down appears on the Sunday Forum for ATR nearly every week now, and if any of the top brass in the know cant see that this man is top class, well they shouldn't be in that position... Well done to ATR for getting him on...<ok>

It is a crying shame that the bloke is not on air more, but im afraid its just the state that all sports on tv seem to do now a days...

I have no problem with Gina Bryce as the eye candy (if little else) on The Morning Line but they should definitely not have Mick Fitzgerald on as he clearly had brain damage at the same time as his neck injury. Beating an odds-on shot in a five-runner race does not automatically equate to good form. If the dozy former NH plodder jock backed odds on favourites in every small field this summer he would soon be in the poor house, hiding under his dunce’s hat.

The Ascot card today should not be sponsored by Duty Free Dubai but by Disney – it is Mickey Mouse racing. I am amazed that the Political Correctness brigade is not up in arms about the women being segregated in a group of their own. If this were a normal Saturday card with jockeys that know how the races will be run and how to ride the track, I could have fancied Broxbourne (Kiwi Lisa Allpress aboard) and Noble Deed (Yank Rosie Napravnik aboard); however, this gimmick fixture is a total no bet.

In the feature race at Haydock, punters will undoubtedly pile on the odds-on favourite Telescope, facile winner of a three-runner event last time out but with nothing but hype to indicate that it is a Group 1 performer running in a lesser race. Catching pigeons on the gallops is no grounds for getting involved in a real race and it will need to win this very convincingly before anybody should contemplate its chances in the Champion Stakes. Noble Mission does not know that great things were expected because of his brother and he has not been the most reliable yardstick and now drops in trip probably through exasperation.

In the last at Haydock there are three horses that have been hiked by the handicapper for small field wins: Emerging is up 6lb for beating five rivals; Renew is up 8lb for beating six; and Big Thunder is up 8lb for the most recent of three small field victories. I prefer the latter because of the phenomenal form of his trainer in the last few weeks.

Having highlighted the rise up the weights of three in the final race, I am still interested in Chancery in the 2:20 despite the 13lb hike for his latest three-and-three-quarter length win in an ordinary race. My main concern is the trainer – his always lose when I back them!
