That's actually an interesting article <ok>. Shows where we stand on buying more players and the stadium.

On Bale, it reads like the first comment (we want him to stay) was what he said and the rest was generic, but hacks being hacks, they put them together. Even if true, he's be stupid to say all that when we are negotiating. I will highlight one word if he wants to go. Rumoured that RM haven't even bid yet, that Bale is signing endorsements based on staying in the UK and that in truth he is happy to stay for another year, and is very excited about our new signings.

That may be BS and he may be agitating to leave, but no one is absolutely sure yet.

Is your club really serious about moving grounds for a 4th time? Are you sure you're not going to change the name to Milton Keynes Hotspurs?

We've not moved since before Chelsea existed! And it wouldn't be a fourth time. And we're not really moving - the stadium is very close to the site of the current one. Otherwise deeply interesting comment.

I'd say his comments suggest that Bale is heading for the exit door. 'You can't force a player to stay if he's desperate to go', the if in this comment doesn't really sound like something for spurs fans to hang on to as a lifeline to be honest, it sounds like Spurs are resigned to losing him.

Interesting to hear about the financing needed to build a new stadium. As I've said before on the spuds board, before it got shot down in usual fashion, Levy might see a big cash windfall from selling Bale as a hefty down payment on a new stadium.

The "if" to me suggests the interview moved on to what happens generally. But you read what you want into it and I do the same, so without a transcript it is guesswork. They are not above moving sentences around so they sound worse. All THFC employees are banned from talking about Bale's possible move to Madrid, so why would a Director go off message. Unless he is stupid?

Regardless of any self imposed media ban that he might have ignored, his actual quote was:

'We want Bale to stay, but if he's desperate to go we can't force him to play for us'

I'm not sure why else he would even mention it if Bale wasn't desperate to go ?

As ever, the headline is misleading. The actual quote is
Initially, he repeats Tottenham’s standard response to Madrid’s pursuit of their prize asset: “We very much want Bale to stay.” But, when pressed, he accepts: “If a player is desperate to leave, it’s very difficult to force him to stay. We’ve seen it in other clubs. Even if he has a contract, you can’t force somebody to play for you.”

The "But, when pressed" could have been 30 minutes later, when the question was, "leaving Bale out of the equation, in general do you think it is possible to keep unhappy players". Ans "If a player (no mention of Bale here) is desperate...." Not saying that's how it was, but it wouldn't surprise me.

That's wishful thinking to be honest.
I think it's pretty obvious he was talking about Bale, seeing as they were talking about Bale.

At best he was naive. What would his incentive be to say this. That's what I don't get, unless he is just stupid. May be wishful (it is) but the guy is insane to say something like that at this point in the negotiations. If it is as read, then I wouldn't want to be in his shoes at the next board meeting.

FYI, the new stadium will share almost exactly the same footprint as the current one.

What is now the north half of our current pitch will become the south part of the new one.

The new stadium will be built while we continue to use the current one and once 75% complete, we will demolish the old stadium as the new one will already have a greater capacity.

And one more thing - the new stadium will be slightly closer to White Hart Lane (both the road and the station) than the current ground is.

Sorry mate but I don't see the relevance of your childish knee-jerk answer? We know you haven't but it will be the fourth move so do you have an answer or another stupid retort? <doh>

Since when has almost been the same? Will it be new or just refurbed as not only don't I know but care less. <ok>

I really thought I explained it clearly enough, but obviously you have difficulty in understanding.
