Two horses are interesting at Wolverhampton tomorrow.

3.30 Centrality 9/2

Johnston's only runner at Wolves is a handicap debutante who seems to have gotten a very reasonable mark after three quick runs in maidens he was never given a chance of winning. The yard is in good form over the last 2 weeks or so and this looks to have a reasonable chance of winning this contest.


4.30 Spirit Rider 2/1

Gosden and Buick take Spirit Rider to Wolves as their sole runner of the day in the 4.30. It's only gone up 2lbs from it's last win and I think it'll be too good in first time head gear. The second that day has won it's next race and was taken to Goodwood last week running quite well off 83 and I think this horse has a great chance at a reasonable price.
 
I'm looking at the cards and I've arrived at Windsor before seeing anything I could remotely fancy.

In the 6.30 there are only 2 that can win this on pedigree (says I)

Lookslikeanangel (Holy Roman Emperor — Valiantly (Anabaa). Anabaa the sire of Goldikova and Valiantly out of a Dancing Brave mare. Richard Hughes riding which, I know, is a bit of a handicap. Forecast 100/30

Yeah Baby (Danehill Dancer — Street Shaana (Darshaan). The Street Shaana pedigree is what I would call "sweet". Forecast 14/1 - Yeah Baby, that'll do nicely.

Couple of nice maiden races at Naas but just for watching.
 
LOOKSLIKEANANGEL will be another for the Hughes/Hannon Windsor juvenile win factory Ronaldo.

The one that really interests me on the card however is, ESTINAAD 15-2 8.30 Windsor. This fella has earned a reasonable handicap mark over inadequate distances. Tonight he gets a very nice weight for age allowance and steps up to a trip his pedigree has been crying out for.
I have missed the boat slightly as I am going tomorrow and was working through the card in time order instead of going to the toughie first. Still a decent price though and I figure the plunge is going to gather momentum.

I may well be wrong stick but I can't see how that pedigree is crying out for 12f (ish). Mind you, looking at the runners, what a strange lot. Do any of them have a best distance? I can't make head nor tail of any of them. Timeform have yours as their second choice now starting out for Brian Ellison. Good luck and have a good evening at the races. I used to enjoy popping over to Windsor for some evening racing, also Kempton. My favourite for evening racing though was just a bit further at Sandown.
 
Cruiser could knock hughes/hannons juvenal down a peg and definatly looks value at 7s I have stuck it in a ew patent with your pick and triple eight at ripon good luck and have a good evening

Sires optimum distance 10.6f, dams optimum distance 10.1f, dams sires optimum distance 10.2f. No way was this horse ever going to show what he can do until tackling a mile and a quarter at least Ron. Every form comment bar one contains the words "kept on"!

I don't know anything about the sire but I remember Alhaarth and he was essentially a miler/10f horse. He didn't stay 12f (although that was at the top level). However, looking back through the pedigree there is definitely some stamina to be found (Unfuwain, Blakeney, Troy) so you could well be right. I hope so.

PS. That kept on comment always amuses me. They all do that, unless they are pulled up. Stayed on strongly, or nearest finish etc gives a better indication of whether a horse was doing its best work at the finish.
 
It's said that Alhaarth was messed up by Hamdan. As a 2yo he was very impressive but won all his races from the front. When it came to his 3yo career Hamdan insisted he was covered up to get the extra distance, as he was fancied as a Derby colt. He didn't like it and because of that got a bit soured by it all. He came back on song on Arc day in a Group 3. He won over 10f as a 4yo and I don't know if he was ever tried over 12f.
He retired from stud this April and his best produce was Haafhd, who was a cracking colt. Bandari wasn't bad and he stayed 12 OK.
 
Barry Hills called Haafhd "the best miler I have trained" after Haafhd had won the Champion Stakes.

Ahem, excuse me Ron, but I think Barry said that some time before he won the Champion Stakes? Haafhd was a great favourite of mine, and won me a fair old bit in 2004. Even had the gumption (very rare for me) to leave him alone when they rather foolishly raced him on motorway conditions during that Summer. Haafhd just had to have a bit of cut in the ground, a trait which he has passed on to his progeny.

If I were going to Windsor I would have all my betting money (bar a little bit) on that one. In the 6.30 with Lookslikeanangel a NR I would have a teeny tote place bet on Yeah Baby. 45 (44/1) on Betfair to win. 7s (6/1) on 32red to place
