    Hello mackems,

We've got a new manager and I'm working on a second piece for an Everton website on what opposition fans have to say about us and wonder if a few people on here could help me out?

I don't plan on posting every comment but just the best ones/ones which represent the majority view, it'd be great if you guys could answer any of the following:

    1) What do you make of Roberto Martinez? will he be a success at Everton?

    2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad?

    3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why?

    4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI?

    5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was?

    <cheers>

    1) Decent in terms of style but has achieved little due to being a such a poor club up to this point. Hard to judge. Safe appointment but doubt he will do as well as Moyes. Seems a decent bloke though which is a big plus.

    2) Poor. Wigan players and a lad from Barca on loan who's massively unproven.

    3) 9th/10th... Transitional period meaning I think you've gone backwards slightly by losing Moyes.

    4) Lot's of them... Baines, Jags, Fellaini, Coleman amongst others.

    5) We will see I guess.

    1) Like him, especially how he shapes his teams. Has the confidence to try what others may be reluctant to.

    2) Disappointing. Three Wigan transfers and a 19 yr old on loan? Could have done better, but maybe Kenwright doesn't have the funds.

    3) Top 10.

    4) Fellaini, Baines, Miralles and Coleman.

    5) Yes, believe he was best available. Big fan of his.

    1) Never been a fan, in my opinion he is overated, hope he does well though, I've always liked Everton.
    2) Not really inspiring signings, but solid enough.
    3) Top 10 -Just. You have a good squad but if Fellaini and Baines go, then I see mid table obscurity with maybe a brief flirt in the bottom 6.
    4) Fellaini, Baines, Miralles.
    5) No, You should have gone all out for Laudrup.

Bad appointment, bad signings, tin hats on all round. The saving grace will be the quality of the squad Martinez inherited. I feel it is inevitable however that you will finish lower in the league. How low? Depends how much he tries to change. Id say around mid table finish for the toffees this year.

    1. Decent bloke who works on a tight budget not sure he is the right choice for your lot mind.
    2. Not many clubs have bought so far of those you have got in Kone looks the best bet.
    3. Around 10 to 8 this time around, new manager and settling in period and keeping hold of Jelavic
    4. Fellini, Baines, Jagielka, Jelavic for me.
    5. Not sure he was the right choice probably the cheapest, maybe going for Laudrupp instead. Having said that he has had one decent season so bit of a gamble. Reckon you'll be fine with Martinez if he gets time to do it his way. Not sure the players you have are suited to his style mind although he did it at Wigan.

    1) What do you make of Roberto Martinez? will he be a success at Everton? Not a big fan myself. So Many better managers

    2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad? Don't know much about them apart from Kone and he's knocking on a bit.

    3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why? bottom half. Sorry mate, Rate you're squad but not your manager.

    4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI? Oh quite few. Fellaini being the pick ofcourse.

    5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was? Not at all. Di Mattio, Raffa, Dick Advocaat, Avram Grant, Roberto Mancini, Gus Poyet. Could go on all day mate but I think there's enough to be getting on with there.

    (6) What do you think of Everton? Cracking club. Got a lot of time for the fans and club.

ok, I added the last question to show i've nothing against Everton as my words have been pretty damning.

Have always liked Everton and Moyes has done very well with limited resources.

So will Martinez be able to follow in his footsteps? His team play attractive football and he has inherited a decent squad. I am not particularly excited by the players he has brought in. I reckon if he works on the system you have been playing for years now you will do OK, of he tries and changes too much you will slip down the league. You need to keep Fellini and Baines and a couple of others (obviously the ones we would most like in our squad)...otherwise it could be along season..no danger of relegation but not achieving what you are used to. to

    1) What do you make of Roberto Martinez? will he be a success at Everton?

No, I feel that with increased expectation he will struggle. At Wigan the expectation was literally just to stay up, which of course won't be the case at Everton.

Then again it's impossible to say as he's never had a job such as this

    2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad?

Not greatly impressive. Kone will score goals but not a lot imo. Alcaraz is a good defender but I wouldn't place him ahead of Distin or Jagielka. Robles won't be anything more than a back-up I presume? Deulofeu is highly rated but being so young makes me wonder if he'll be able to have an impact

    3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why?

Hard to say, if you keep Baines and Fellaini top 10. Otherwise bottom half, nowhere near relegation though

    4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI?

Baines, Coleman, Jagielka, Fellaini & Mirralas (can't spell it!)

    5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was?

No, Laudrup would have been my first choice.

1 no, Moyes had the knack of bonding players.
    2. Alcaraz I like, but have not heard of the others.
    3. 8th.
    4.Fellaini, Baines without a doubt.
    5. I reckon Laudrup or Peter reid.

    1. Its going to be hard to replace Moyes who done a great job for Everton. All my dads side are big Evertonians so I follow you lot a little bit. I think Martinez has a very good side at his disposal but like I said after Moyes its going to be hard. 50/50 on this.

    2. In the past Everton have been accused of having 12 or 13 good players but not much after that. Kone I wold imagine would start but surely the keeper and Alcaraz will be squad players. As for Deulofeu who knows, apparently he is a top prospect but he is not at Barca and in the best league in the world now.

    3. I think between 7th-10th. Don't think good enough to compete with the top 6 without Moyes but good enough to not fall apart if the worst happened.

    4. Baines, Fellaini, Mirallas

    5. who knows, only time will tell

    1) What do you make of Roberto Martinez? will he be a success at Everton?

Personally like the bloke, quite fancied us going for him when we sacked MON before PDC however I think he may be slightly out of his depth. Especially if results at the start of the season don't go your way he may well come under some pressure around Christmas time.

Success at Everton? not for me.

    2) What do you make of our transfer business this summer with the additions of Kone, Joel Robles, Alcaraz and Deulofeu joining the squad?

In one word: underwhelming. I know Everton don't have loads to spend but recruiting players from Wigan isn't a step in the right direction IMO. Kone will be a good impact sub (if he doesn't start) and as for the lad from Barca who knows.

    3) Where do you think Everton will finish? why?

I'd say around 8th if you keep the likes of Fellaini and Baines. Think your nearest and dearest may have too much for you this year and maybe someone like Swansea having another good season depending on Europa League exploits.

If they both leave (think Baines will stay but still reckon Fellaini to Man Utd). I'd say around 10th-12th. You've got a good enough squad to steer clear of a relegation dog-fight but probably lack that bit of quality to challenge the big boys.

    4) Which current Everton players would you take in your XI?

The obvious ones.. Fellaini, Baines, Mirralles, Peinnar, Jagielka

    5) Was Roberto Martinez the best choice for Everton FC? if not, who was?

Without shelling millions on compensation for someone else, yes at the time he was.

3 quaters of Martinez's time as Wigan manager were spent in the bottom 3. The season before he took over Bruce had them a top 10 team. Says it all for me really, goodluck you may need it!!

It's a well documented fact, for a long, long time that I do not rate Martinez at all. I think he is a bottle merchant and a con man. He had st least as much, if not more money to spend at Wigan as Moyes did at Everton but for all his time there, Wigan were hardly ever out of the bottom 4 or 5. Yes his teams play attacking football but he can't organise a defence to save his life. I don't see where Everton will score the 2 or 3 a game they will need to combat the 1 or 2 they will concede.

For some unknown reason, he has gained this aura about him that he is a good manager from that? I don't get it.

He was mentioned by some of our fans as a potential manager for us and I was horrified.

As for Everyon under him? Honestly? Bottom half to relegation potential and a collapse of all the great work done by Moyes. You should have gone for Laudrup. Quality builder of good teams that can score and defend.

Good luck Toffeemen, you'll need it.
