Why do you folks get on this kids back? he has not finnished his apprentiship yet, only learning his trade. he has been told by his supposed GAFFER to play in a role, which may not be the one that he is comfortable with, what the **** does Bruce Know about anything else but defending,,,,,,,,,,,,, actually, what does he know about defending anyhow? on this last seasons performance? My oppinions about Bruce are known to all who read this site on a regular basis, the geezer plays people out of position so many times, too many times, Richardson for example,,,,,,, not the kids fault........... a good manager,,,, MANAGES,,,, if we lose our own home spun kids, we just become another feeder club, much rather lose Bruce[anyday] than our clubs future, get off the lads back, he is a bit good, but still learning his trade. Under a propper manager ,,,,, could be great. as I said,,,,,,,,,,under a PROPPER MANAGER?????????????
Agree with the Henderson bit, but I quite like Bruce and think he will come good next season. Would love to see Henderson stay and progress with his hometown club.
Compare him to Jack Wiltshire who is younger & better. The argument about him still being an apprentice is bollocks.
billofengland - Management consultant. Personnaly I have my doubts about Bruce but he had a real "bummer " of a season what with injuries and being forced to play people out of position. If he worked for me I would be prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and let him have another season in charge.
Absolutely. People get on his case BECAUSE he isn't better than average. One or two good games a season doesn't make him a world beater, it doesn't even make him a beater, of any sort. The lads too many times a waste of a shirt, and IMO we've missed a trick by not taking £13m for him. Here's the train of thought: Liverpool and Spurs offered in excess of £20m for Jones in his first season in the PL. Second season, he did ok, nowt special, and sold for barely more than we paid for him, simply because people learned how to play against him. And to be fair, you don't have to be a football genius to learn how to bypass Jordan's tackles
Only 4 players in the entire english premier league last season created more goalscoring opportunities than Jordan Henderson - I think that is a very interesting statistic - also if you think about it Rooney and Hernandes would score a much higher percentage of these chances than SAFC players (just using them as an example) which, IMO, makes him a valuable asset. I'm behind Bruce without the overt use of the comma key to emphasise my opinion. Guessing you're a "Bruce out brigade" member Bill - personally I'm not but each to their own
In Jones' first season he looked a world beater - he picked up a serious knee injury and never looked half the player (ask John Terry who was quoted as saying he was the most difficult centre forward he'd ever played against in his first season in the PL) As for Henderson - he's 20 and he played a lot more than a "couple of good games" - he played the entire season before the one just ended and looked an excellent player. He also looked excellent up to just after Christmas when the team fell apart as a collective unit. Should we sell Gyan, Cattermole, the entire back 4 (in each different form), the keepers?? None of these fulfilled their entire potential, be it through injury or otherwise but if we are saying Sell henderson because of this reason then it stands to reason that we sell everyone who didn't play as well as we wanted them to after the January we had.
WHAT? He was the worst offender! The lad was a liability and a waste of a shirt. He never performed from his ENG debut in November until he put two away at Wigan at the end of May, and after that he didn't exactly set the world alight. £13m is a deal we should have never rejected, IMO.
£20m i say sell anything less we keep him and develop him further at the end of the day it depends on what Jordon wants and if he wants to stay i am happy with that. As for Catts sell selll sell
Personally, I think Jordan is a very good player who has suffered with all the squad losses and form dips. This 'Jack Wiltshire is better bollocks' gets on my pip, as he would look no different in a Sunderland shirt this season given the players we had available around him. Henderson has only got 2 seasons behind him at this level, is already a fully capped player and a regular Under 21 team player. He could well be one of the stars of this summerâs tournament and to be honest, it sickens me too how easily some fans just want to get rid of him for a pittance of 13m. If we sold him, we would be depleting an already thin squad and then have to replace him with what? A total gamble for the same expenditure? Makes no sense to me at all. If he has a good Under 21 tournament, gets off to a flyer next season and scores 7 or 8 goals (itâs not beyond him at all), then he will be worth 3 times that amount the season after. He is only going to get better when we can put a settled team around him and bring out the natural talent he certainly has. Donât sell one of our young academy prospects without thinking long and hard about it first.
He IS still young and everybody should just give him a break, someone mentioned Wilshere, Jordan Henderson has assisted 5 goals to the supposed playmaker Jack Wilshere's 3. Considering the difference in quality in the two teams they play for that is very interesting. Jordan Henderson has scored 3 premier league goals to Wilshere's 1. Again, interesting. So is Wilshere really that better than Henderson? If Henderson played more often for England in his preferred role maybe he'll receive some recognition? I don't think so, not unless he leaves us, Bent left us struggling to get into the England starting 11, now all of a sudden he's 2nd best striker England have? I think it would be a big mistake to sell Henderson without letting him develop.
All about opinions mate - he wasn't the worst offender - he created chances we didn't take and the defence allowed goals to be scored (look at his stats - 5th most chances created this season) - he wasn't great but he was certainly not the worst offender. You can blame him for not taking chances he had but if the defence does their job, we get a point - if the defence concedes and the forwards fail we get no points - if the defence keeps a clean sheet and the forwards fail, at least we get a point. Henderson had an excellent season last seaoson (the one before the one that has just finished) and none of us wanted rid in the summer - now everyone does (not me but a lot of people on here seem to) because he's had a bad half season or so?? Bit fickle IMO - give the lad a bit of time and a rest to get back to what we know he is capable of and I'm sure he'll be a good player
Agree with Bill and whoever would accept £13 million for him is as wrong as Germany invading Poland. He is worth £20 million at least based upon appearances made in the Premiership, his age and him being English, he has potential and will only get better - and there is room for improvement I will agree, so he could get much better.
Totally agree! If we are selling our young prospects before they have had a chance to hit their peak with us we may as well give up now cos we will never win anything.
Do you realise that we conceded less goals with Catts in the team last season than we did without and that he also made more block tackles than any other midfielder. Without his injury I personally think he'll be an excellent player. He has a "discipline problem" - well I've watched some games involving Man U, Newcastle, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and about 4 others where their players have ALL conceded much worse fouls than what Cattermole gets booked forand most of the time they don't even give away a free-kick - he hasn't gone over the top of the ball this season or committed any potential leg breakers - he has driven the team when he's on the field and the fans, when watching him, seem to lift themselves to make more noise just because he puts a cracking tackle in. Cattermole needs a little guidance and needs to move the ball forward and maybe develop his vision - but I personally think he's important to us
