In 'allo 'allo ' they say this only once but I will say this for the 3rd time. I have no doubt that Hughton and McNally know what they are doing but I raise the point now, as on previous windows, at the people saying buy this, buy that, buy the other when we already have 26 players for the 25 man squad especially as it is often the same people who are reluctant to see players leave. To be fair to all sides of the arguement I would point out that on this thread alone there are people who would sell Fox, others who would keep him and others who want him in the starting eleven. Munky and Supers are perfectly correct when they say I bring this up every time so I will bring up another point I also raise at the same time - the loan system. It is perfect for the likes of Rudd or to get games for somebody returning from a long injury layoff but apart from that - no! What benefit did we get from sending Chris Martin etc out on loan? None. If Ch buys two more then just select 2 to sell, Don't even talk about loaning out the likes of Fox or Surman - sell 'em whilst they are still under contract. Ward was the odd man out last year. He hung around with us paying his wages for most of the season before he went out on loan and then ran down his contract.

elliott ward was on our payroll for two months of last season. the only reason he didn't leave beforehand was because a club didn't come in for him throughout the summer. that could (and does) happen with any club, any player, any summer so isn't relevant at all. i can only guess but chris martin was probably put out on loan to run his contract down away from the club (wages covered) and put him in the shop window for a move this summer (which worked although we were never going to get anything for him).

i totally get that you want people to realise that if we keep buying we need to address an overload of players aged over 21 but again, you seem to be looking for problems which don't really exist or at best, aren't major issues for the club <ok>

Best of luck to Gary. Lenny said he wanted to strangle him when he told him he wanted to move to England <laugh>

All the best.

About Vydra, apparently West Brom have made a bid of £4m for him, think he'll be a bit more than that though... (Source is the daily star though)

So do we think that we are all done for transfers now? After giving it some thought I think we might be more likely to see a couple of loans come in from bigger clubs, it makes sense to take advantage of the loan system if players become available who would cover us until either January or next summer.

Back to the question of a midfield link. It might be fun IMO to approach QPR with an enquiry for Esteban Granero. His agent was in touch with Swansea earlier to see if they were interested, but they were not. That suggests he may not be too thrilled about playing in the Championship. Here is a rating comparison with Bradley Johnson:

Granero
Defensive contribution: Very Strong
Passing: Strong:
Taking set-pieces: Strong
Crossing: Strong
Holding on to the ball: Strong
Key passes: Strong
Player has no significant weaknesses

Johnson
Aerial Duels: Very Strong
Taking set-pieces: Strong
Concentration: Strong
Ball interception: Strong
Passing: Weak

Granero is right footed, and generally plays on the right where Johnson plays predominantly on the left. He is very strong defensively, though less powerful than Johnson, but his ball retention and passing, two areas where Johnson is found wanting, are both rated "strong". A pairing of Fer and Granero would, IMO, improve our playing out of defence while still providing excellent cover in front of the back four, and might lead to a more even involvement of those playing left/right midfield (Pilkington/Redmond and Snoddy). Granero is not an "old head", but he is technically good, as one expects of a Spanish player.

If not Granero, are there others who might have a similar impact? <ok>

i thought granero was going to be their best signing by a considerable distance last summer. he was awful. i refuse to believe he has suddenly become an awful player so lets put it down to the club he was playing for. i agree, he's someone i wouldn't mind here. would be an upgrade on fox <ok>
