Having re-read the question and consulted Wiki, I reckon the area include a unique, prehistoric 'cloudforest' whatever that may be.

Only place/area that you can see this

Look at the structure of the Panama isthmus and you can see how it twists round...so that the pacific ocean is east of the Atlantic ocean (Caribbean).
Caribbean Sea is at the western end of the Panama Canal, while the Pacific ocean is at the Eastern end,

Now that is an interesting bit of trivia, even though I say so myself
