The commentary is killing this for me, it's kinda like one guy who seems to have never seen a footie match before
Half time, and so far this is going to ignite all those arguments we had in the second half of last season. There has been no sign whatsoever of the different style some people on here have said that Hughton will adopt now that he has better players, and yet again we are looking clueless about how to go about breaking down a weaker side. We have been lacking in creativity and seem to have no attacking intent other than long balls for a sole striker to chase. There was one moment in the first half when such a ball was well controlled by RVW but when he looked up there was not a single Norwich attacker within thirty yards of the ball. I'd say advantage to Carrabuh in the war of words about CH.
San Jose created far more than Norwich did, which says something. Only two positives for me - some great tackles and passing from Fer, and Ruddy who looked assured.
All over, and San Jose would not have been flattered by 2-0 or 3-0. On an individual level (e.g. the movement of RVW, the first few minutes of Fer, Becchio's desire), a few reasons to be hopeful. On a collective level, a very poor performance, as bad as anything from last season. Oh well, it was only a pre-season friendly and probably match fitness played a part. And perhaps we needed something to bring us all down to earth, what with all the talk about top ten finishes and winning a cup.
Am I glad I didn't stay up / get up early to watch that. I'm giving CH the benefit of the doubt as it's only pre-season of course and we have several new faces, but it still doesn't alter the fact that his 'football style' according to VC hasn't changed. Losing that game IMO is a bit of an embarrassment even though it was a friendly, then again CH has already usurped that result losing to Luton last year. We move on to the next game and hopefully a much better performance then. IHWT ?
According to the stats I've just seen we mustered just two shots on goal as well. Not exactly going to encourage a canary following in the good ol' U S of A is it ?
I couldn't care less about result, this one just as significant as the last. You only need to look at other teams results ie man city. It's all about fitness and getting through games unscathed. Also considering San Jose are mid season, fitness would have played a big part in that game!
Totally agree ´boots´ - ridiculous some people already getting itchy just because there aren´t a hatful of goals every game, or because he hasn´t changed his style from last year. Why should he change his style anyway, it´s what he believes in, so I can´t imagine he´ll change that anytime soon, but hopefully he´s bringing in players who´ll be able to play it better .
Your description, vietnamcanary, suggests we're still desparately in need of an ACM in the mould of Toivonen. Someone to link the midfield with RvW, Becchio or whatever formation CH elects to play up top. Let's hope such a player is still a high priority before Aug 17th
People shouldn't read too much into a pre season game, all you have to do is look at the side we put out. Like do you honestly think we will play Surman at left back when the season starts? As it is only a pre season game, I also doubt the players will give 100% and risk injury, I always say this, but pre season games is all about getting match fitness.
You obviously haven't followed the link I posted yesterday to an article about the Earthquakes KIO: "Since capturing the club’s first MLS Cup in 2001, the Earthquakes have dropped only two matches to their international opponents. And following the rebirth of the team in 2008, the Quakes are unbeaten in 6 friendly matches at Buck Shaw Stadium. Three more EPL sides have ventured to San Jose since Aston Villa’s 1997 visit, one in each of the past three seasons, and all three have failed to topple the Quakes." Personally I don't see any cause at all for embarrassment. They are mid-season, we are just getting going again, aiming to give everybody game time (as the team selections show). I expect the team for the Portland game may be a bit more as we might expect, but there again it's still early days.
From what I saw online today, yes, I would say that is exactly what we need. The most worrying thing was the lack of any kind of creativity in midfield. To the people who are lining up to accuse me of being negative, I did actually say that I recognised it was a pre-season game and that they were much fitter than us and much more up for it. However, that still can't disguise the fact that it was a very disappointing performance.
Um, because I'm right. And there are dozens of comments all over the Internet this morning proving I'm right. When Manchester United lost their first game of Pre season there where plenty of united fans doing the same thing as well, it's not an issue exclusive to us.
