That's off Fragile, mate. [Oops forgot. Yessongs is a collection] BTW, I've now got round to The Revealing Science of God. Still sounds great. Did you ever to try to work out Yes lyrics back in your youth..?

Yessongs is a live album, TSS, and the live version of Roundabout is, well, stupendous. Here it is:

It's funny, when I see you chaps discussing music I feel so far behind, when in reality it's because I'm so far ahead. It makes me sad to listen to music like that and then hear the popular music of my generation. Perhaps in 30 or 40 years people will be saying the same thing...

Never been one for live albums because they never captured the moment. Besides, they are often badly played. I'll give this one a go though because YES were one of the few bands who I found did sound good live.

Off the top of my head, Peter Frampton's album is the only one I could enjoy. Yessongs might make two..! :)

BTW, that's a mobile link, mate. I'll find it.

Truth is Mikey, there is no such thing as old music. If you have never heard it before it is new to you. Even if you never listened to any music after say... 1980, there is several lifetimes worth that is all extremely listenable stuff.

Funnily enough, the last time I heard Roundabout from Yessongs played was a couple of years ago when I was watching my stepson's jazz-rock band and they put some sounds on in their interval. Amazingly, it was all '70's prog-rock, with the live Roundabout in there. And these guys are all in their early 20's and love all that stuff. Warms the old cockles.

You're going to consider me an absolute nerd here but that live version didn't do it for me. The studio version is far too ingrained. I grew up with YES as a band that was an alternative to Led Zep, Jimi, Moodies, and it was their precision and timing which sold me on them, though I did see them at the Gaumont [Mayflower] and loved it. Live albums generally don't do justice, in my opinion. Have a comparison: Roundabout [studio version] from Fragile.

This is one of the rare occasions when a 'live' recording is better than the original studio version....superb vocals and musicianship.

Fair enough TSS, each to his own! I spent far too much of the early '70's listening to the likes of King Crimson, ELP, Yes, and Genesis and going to see them, and then having endless debates about whether studio versions were better than live ones of all our favourite numbers. That is a question that can never be answered definitively I suppose!

That's not bad at all Saints Alive. I like that.

OK, here's the quote/unquote live album that does justice to the genre. I know it's almost a cliche, but it actually is quite superb. When I was living in Egerton Forstal in Kent, this was one of the albums I put on full blast one summer's day, with all the windows open. I listened to it at the bottom of our garden, drinking whisky. My neighbour joined me for the session. It sounded like Frampton was playing in front of us. <laugh>

Why is it that everyone else gets pulled and no-one takes the slightest bit of interest of me?

You're probably projecting VICTIM again. Sorry PL, but nobody likes that. Even the rescuers in society.

Definately a classic...Bowie recognised his ability to play live and Frampton toured with him a few times.

I assure you, I wasn't even thinking of pulling or anything like that untill everyone else started pulling. Then it's kinda hard not to. Up until that point I was having fun and just partying, which I doubt would have given

    And sure, SA, where?

Well I can't give you advice PL. I have no idea what situation was, what personality you have, why you seem to keep missing out on enjoyment, but you certainly seem to be discontented. There have been several times where I've read your posts about your social life and people, especially Fran, have been very patient in their advice. If you are going to properly analyse your social interactions, then I'm going to recommend a book for you to read and then I'll stop commenting further, because putting a virtual arm around you doesn't seem to work. Here's the book. Read it, or not as you please. Inwardly digest and then stop worrying because you will understand your situation. This will definitely help: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Games-People-Play-Psychology-Relationships/dp/0345410033/ref=cm_lmf_tit_1
