The Maxi Lopez link seems to be gathering a lot of pace.

I'm hoping it's nothing more than rumours - can't admit to feeling thrilled about the prospect of him joining us and would like to see someone like Jelavic come in instead. I know he had a lean season last season, but I'm sure he could do a job for us!!!

Not very keen on Lopez myself. He never really made it at Barcelona and got shipped out on loan a lot. Did better in Moscow, but then has stuttered of late for Campania, being sent out on loan. Has also been accused of racism, although it's not been proven. I would prefer Suffolk's suggestion of Kevin de Bruyne on loan. Playing as an AM he scored 10 goals in 32 games on loan at Werder Bremen last year. Not sure whether he plays wide or in the hole, though. At 22, he's already played 12 times for Belgium.

Sorry to disagree chap but if Barcelona and AC Milan, amongst others, even thought that he was good enough to play for them then, in my book, he would be a welcome addition to Carrow Road especially as he is still the right side of 30. I can't ever remembering before a player with that pedigree being mentioned in the same sentence as Norwich City.

Thomas Helveg?

Incidentally, this paragraph on Lopez's wiki page is hilarious:

Lopez's surprising change of luck from being a criticised forward in River Plate to being signed by world's giants FC Barcelona made him an Internet meme in his native Argentina. Satirical blogs were created lobbying for his inclusion in the Argentinian squad for the 2006 World Cup. After the Argentinian elimination of the cup (without Lopez getting any caps at all) the nature of the meme changed to a series of reasons explaining his lack of time play on Barcelona with hyperbolic claims about Lopez's virility, skilfulness and a supposed affair with the wife of Barcelona's coach Frank Rijkaard which closely resembled Chuck Norris Facts. In interviews, Lopez has stated that he is ok with this unexpected following and the Church of the "White Drogba". (As he is known after missing a crucial Penalty kick for River against Arch-enemies Boca Juniors on the same week Didier Drogba missed one against Egypt in the final of 2006 African Cup of Nations)[

As I said a few pages back, you have to credit the guy, not just for his good looking wife but also for having a sense of humour. <laugh>

(Imagine the Pink Un forum if someone posted that we were to sign "the White Drogba", They'd be in ecstasy. <ok>

maxi lopez is one of those players who was extremely highly rated at a very young age but hasn't applied himself throughout his career and it shows when you watch him. don't be fooled by the calibre of some of the clubs he's represented - its a case of managers thinking they can rekindle some of the early promise he showed - none have been able to get him firing to anywhere near the level they'd hoped. he'd be great one game and then not turn up for three months. incredibly frustrating! i'd keep well clear but if hughton signs him i'll certainly back him but i don't see him being much threat - i hope its just rumours as i don't really want him here. don't get me wrong, he's ok, not terrible, far from it, but i hope for someone better

Lopez may have played for Barca and AC Milan but he only got 4 goals in 29 appearances at those clubs. Playing for these top teams doesn't make you a top player. Every team signs a few duds along the way. Certainly a big name but for me, not the sort we should be looking for.

Many of us think we should go into the season with four strikers, with this pecking order;
1) vWolfswinkel
2) Top signing
3) Back up signing or loan
4) Bechio

By all accounts Maxi Lopez sounds to me like a good option for third choice. Not too expensive (by our current standards); used to playing bit part roles and capable of changing matches from the bench.

I was more thinking:
1) RvW
2) Someone like repooH
3) Becchio
4) CAM who can double as a striker (Toivonen, Quagliarella, etc)

I wouldn't say no to a loanee too, but ideally a young'un who won't take up a squad spot.

no problem with that line of thinking but i just don't rate the guy much and see him being brought in as the 2nd of your options above. if he came in as the third choice i'd be ok with that but it would depend on his wages, which i imagine must be rather high. i do think we'll buy one and loan another centre forward/deep lying forward

Aww, but Mrs Lopez would look lovely in a City top......:emoticon-0116-evilg

1) RvW
2) Hooper (just get on with it, he has good resale value)
3) Becchio
4) Lucas Piazon on loan from Chelsea

Good balance to the team. I also would like to try Thorgan Hazard on loan

Watched the stream last night live as was working nights and even thou we lost it was a good work out and a very even match with only one silly backpass for the cause of the goal.

Redmond looked good, lively and quick.
Fer, strong nice touch and a work horse.
Wolf, again strong, lead the line well and likes making defenders work hard.

Poor for me was Wes when he came on but we all know some days he is brilliant and some days just frustrating.

But we do need more forward options on the bench.

Has the time come for us to take the blinkers off regarding Wes? He is good on his day, but unfortunately those days are getting fewer and fewer. I think the bench could be his place this season.
