Only 22 million... you'd think City's interest would have pushed the price up.

That would be good for football. I'd be happy for Arsenal to win the league if Chelsea don't. But I just can't see Arsenal catching United, and possibly City and/or Chelsea for a season or two.

And I would love Wenget to lift the European Cup, he deserves it for all his work at Arsenal.

Why do Arsenal struggle to get the players they want?

You are based in London, have the best stadium in the City, play good football with a fantastic manager.

There should be no reason for you not to get the players you want. If Spurs can do it then so can Arsenal.

As EC said, be nice for Wenger to get ol' big ears. Reckon if he did he would retire though.

We have this every year. Even though last year we signed Podolski, Cazorla, and Giroud, a lot of fans declared that we had not signed anyone big.

The league is not decided by how much you spend, and the top players year after year don't cost their clubs vast sums of money. Bale wasn't bought for huge amounts. RVP wasn't acquired by Arsenal for vast amounts. So I am more disappointed about not hanging onto our stars than I am about not buying players whose only way to go is down.

I am more worried about us not having the cover at DM, CB, RB than I am about not having some over-priced prima donna in our team.

Everybody is focused on our striker situation and I'm seeing a lot of options for us right now, but I'm not going to be happy with just Ramsey and Arteta able to play DM.

UnitedinRed is actually correct though. We DO struggle to get the players we want.

We only bought Arteta after failing to sign Gotze.
We bought Gervinho after failing with a bid for Mata.

This Summer we have so far had bids rejected for Lars Bendter and Luis Suarez. These are obvioulsy our TOP targets(being the only two players we have actually bid for).. but will we land either of them? I'm highly sceptical.

We miss most of our TOP targets and that's because we are less attractive to players than we used to be. For the simple reason we've established ourselves as a 'selling club'.

For me this is why a marquee signing is exactly what the club needs. Our profile has been hurt by the constant selling of our best players.

I'm sorry - when have Spurs 'done it'?

For years now, we've needed a top class striker and not got one.

Spurs are worse than Arsenal at transfer business.

Although it would be sadistically funny to get Daniel Levy and Arsene Wenger at the same club - there wouldn't be a single new player signed...ever.

I'm slightly worried that there aren't really any top strikers left. We put all our eggs in the Higuain basket (Suarez isn't realistic) and have missed out on Jovetic, a realistic option, and we're not even going to get Higuain now.

I am starting to lose all hope for the new season, now. This transfer window even by our standards, has been terrible in terms of player recruitment. The whole thing with Suarez for me is pointless, because it's so ****ing difficult and we are just wasting our time with it

The only top quality (IMO) option left is Roberto Soldado, but Spurs are linked with him. There are tons of "not quite good enough" options floating around, people like Pablo Osvaldo, Giampoalo Pazzini, Stefan Keisling etc.

Interesting to note though that the success/failure rate of not quite so good strikers has probably been better that the really top class ones. If you look at RVP/Rooney/Drogba/Ronaldo/Henry They were all bought before they really hit the top.

There have been a few high profile flops when it comes to strikers brought in at the top of their game.

coz Cazorla and Giroud were household names to anyone even the slightest interested in football .

MASSIVE players . , i bet real and Barca were kicking themselves that they lost out on the massive talent that is Oli Giroud.

try to keep some perspective in your arguement .<rofl>

Giroud was a budget signing, there's no denying that. Whether it will pay off no one knows yet

I think Giroud/Podolski were budget in terms of the money we paid, and I wouldn't put them on the Suarez/Rooney/Higuain tier (yet), but they are right there with the next tier, the Jovetic/Lukaku/Lewandowski level.

All I was saying is that the flop rate on the top tier is surprisingly high considering you can usually afford 2-3 Podolskis for every Higuain.

Yeah and i just bet before that window you were saying "come on Arsene , get good bids in Giroud and Cazorla for christs sake " ...:cheesy:

    were you fuck ........

FYI ...Giroud WAS a poor signing .

He need 50 chances to get 5 goals .

Cant hold the ball up for sh!t .

Cazorla has earned some kudos but Giroud ?

The jury is still out on that one my friend.

Actually I liked Cazorla and there were some who wanted Giroud on here <doh>
So because a player isn't Ronaldo or Messi popular they are a bad signing?
