The absolute, stand-out BEST thing about the Utd squad in the last 2-3 years has been.........................Alex Ferguson. I hate to break it to you Utd fans but your squad is NOT that great. You may win the league this coming season, i won't deny that, and you certainly have a better chance than us. But you will not walk it like you did last. It will be very close and i would not be surprised if the final 2 in the hunt are City and Chelsea. Isn't the Fabregas deal already dead?
Nope, some non exec barcelona VP has said he doesnt think fab is transferable but Moyes confirmed Woodward is negotiating a deal now and will know more in 48 hours. As for our squad, you are criminally underrating it. Every United fan knows how good fergie was and what he did for our club but the fact is, when the players stepped on the pitch, it was them who won the games and earned the points to win the title. We have a fantastic goalkeeper who will likely be hear for the next decade, our defence once settled last season was great. i know it started of a shambles but we had a different defence every game at one point which of course doesnt help anyone but the opposition. The same might happen again but even so, we have the depth to at least cover it short term. 6 defenders on a long term injury might hamper us though. our midfield is the problem area but we have a great player in Carrick and it looks like Moyes is working on the midfield. Add Fabregas and suddenly our midfield looks very strong. Even adding Fellaini would give us other options. We could end up with both. Further up in midfield we have Kagawa who is a very good little player and a year on he seems to have settled in now after a shaky start. Our attack of course is unrivaled in the PL. While Rooney is still here we have 3 of the best strikers in the league. Well we have the 2 best and Hernandez is pretty damn lethal. Got a couple of young lads as well coming through, most notable is Adnan Januzaj who has seemingly agreed a new contract after Juventus were interested. We are looking to add Fabregas and reports suggest Garay, Fellaini, Baines. Less likely reports also claim Bale and/or Ronaldo but we'll leave those for now. All in all I fail to see how or why as a United fan I should be overly worried at this moment. Im pretty sure Moyes isnt a moron and he did well at everton regardless of what some say. They averaged 15th before he took over and he averaged 8th ( 6th in the last 6 seasons ) with a team once barely surviving relegation. United have few egos in the squad unlike Chelsea or City so Moyes should have control of his players and he'll certainly have the respect of them. If the worst happens it wont be too hard to send Moyes packing, i am sure theres plenty of managers out there who would jump at the chance to manage United.
Fabregas and Baines are 2 we have made official bids for. Fellaini is our 'fall back' option according to some. I think hes great but would hope hes our second CM signing not our first or only.
that may be so, but the arrogance is that you just expect to sign them, as if other clubs just go "oh its utd, bid accepted, off you go son". Fabregas and Baines bids could well be rejected. Fellaini, reportedly, has a buy out clause but even that is running out. I think thats the point others are making. The time where Man Utd showed the slightest interest in a player meant it was a done deal could well be over. Players would WANT to play for Fergie (the BEST manager in the world, probably) and they would almost be guaranteed silverware. Now we and they just don't know.
Baines bid was rejected. Fabregas.... well this is a strange one. Bid made Euros30million, no response. 3 days later Moyes confirms in a press conference ( took place at 6am ) that Woodward had flown back urgently for this deal. Now to me that suggests Barcelona have either accepted or are willing to sit down and thrash out a deal. Woodward was due back anyway over the weekend so unless the signs were good he could have waited.
I would have though that this was pretty clear. The bit saying "Barcelona will not entertain any bids for cesc. It is totally ruled out. He is not for sale" sounds fairly unambiguous! He's going to look pretty silly if he goes back on that http://www1.skysports.com/football/...r-united-target-cesc-fabregas-is-not-for-sale
So the majority of your argument about having a "criminally underrated" squad rests on players you MIGHT sign in the future on the basis of the tabloid rumour-mill. Your keeper = pretty good, but no better than City's or ours, and worse than Chelsea's. Your defence = average and injury prone. The only one I would have at Spurs is Rafael, Vidic if he weren't a sicknote. Your midfield = average bar Carrick. Your attack = Best in the league I think you are "criminally" overrating your squad and will realise this in the coming season An injury to RVP and you're ****ed.
I would go further and say that Lloris is better than De Gea. Carrick is also aging. He's nothing special imo. He made Spurs tick when he was with us but we were considerably worse back then. Would he start for us now? Debatable. Hernandez is deadly but his all round game ain't that great. There is a reason why he doesn't play and is kept out the team by, a frankly, **** Welbeck. Rooney is not as good as Utd and England fans think he is. RVP is spectacular though i'll admit.
You would think so wouldnt you. Right up until the point you realise its a non exec VP who has no say on such matters.
Im not really. You have just called the reigning PL champions sqaud average. Seems like your underrating it to me.
I think that's splitting hairs & wishful thinking. I very much doubt that a Vice President of Barcelona would make such an unambiguous statement if that were not the club's official view.
Hernandez would start for almost all PL clubs and would probably start for most clubs around the world. Hes about goals so he would play high up on the shoulder and a team who created lots of chances would have a field day. the only reason he doesnt play every game at United is RvP and Rooney. Welbeck plays as we can stick him out left. De Gea is imo the best keeper in the league. I am biased of course but from what he was to what hes become in such a short space, even if hes not the best right now, he will be soon enough.
http://www.fcbarcelona.com/club/board-members/detail/card/executive-structure You let me know when you find him amongst the real Barcelona execs and general management
Why does the fact you won the PL mean you have a good squad? We have all admitted you had a spectacular manager, who you no longer have. City dropped the ball and played crap last season, so did Chelsea. That won't happen this. Like i keep saying its all up in the air at Utd, you're the only one that disagrees. If we sign Fabregas, Fellaini and Baines then our squad is looking pretty damn fantastic, i think you'll agree.
Like WY (i think) said, i'm guessing you are a Utd fan that has only known Fergie. If you have never known of a change in manager its not surprising you don't know the effect it can have
Well, he's going to be in very deep ****e when his President reads that then, isn't he? Again, splitting hairs. It was a very public, very unambiguous statement.
It beggars belief doesn't it? Any of the top 10 clubs in the league could sign those players and suddenly become title contenders, even 'Pool
