Still haven't put a fork in those social media ITKs, Roo? They're done. Valencia have claimed that we've made enquiries about Soldado. We didn't make a single bid for Benteke and I don't think anyone else did, either.
Damiao is supposed to be signing for Napoli I believe. We were being linked again with Soldado last night. But let's face it - we are not going to pay £20-£25m for a striker - it's just not going to happen. Levy won't sanction it. I predicted no further transfer business from Spurs a few days ago and I still think that's the case.
Oh yeah - apparently AVB has been approached about the Barcelona job. Twitter (yeah yeah) stating that he was contacted a few days ago and it's only now that they are putting the news conference together? AVB leaving Another new Bale transfer rumour starts Benteke deal falls through No transfer deals close in or out Carlsberg don't do crap footballing weeks but if they did...
Yep, I've given Adam suter the benefit of the doubt, but to be honest, I take everything with a pinch of salt now. If I was AVB, I'd take it. I would also wish him well. He must be wondering what on earth is going on. Surely he's submitted a list of players he wants, and is expecting to get to work with them before the start of the season? It's completely unacceptable that we have gaping holes in the squad and nothing has been done about it. Yet we've gone and paid 17mill for paulinho, who was hardly a top priority!
Suter said that Benteke was done. We didn't even make a bid. The season's not even close to starting yet. Jumping the gun a little? The likes of PSG, Monaco, Man City and other big financial hitters have been going after strikers til now. They'd have blown us out of the water on any bid. Napoli have sold their best player, so they've got £50m, but when that's gone we should see the market settle down a bit. Moving before now would've put us in competition with clubs that we simply couldn't match, so what would've been the point?
did he? all i've read is this: "Baldini is making the difference. Likely benteke will be a spurs player by the end of the week. 5 year deal plus option." and: "couple of things to tie up with aston villa who want it done this week so they can prepare for the season. Nearly there!" He didn't actually say it was done. - not from what i've seen anyway. How do you know there was no bid? Not at all, PNP. We wouldnt be going after the same strikers as the likes of City anyway. we know we cant afford the fees or wages of the sorts of players they are after, so we should be carrying on with our business by getting players who are within our grasp.
I think 1 ITK went as far as claiming the full deal down to wages + shirt number I think now when I see an ITK post I'm just going to assume we're either not linked to that person at all or, if they're claiming we've made a bid, that we haven't made a bid.
yep, that was Suter on Paulinho. No8. - let's wait and see if that's the case. that he definitely did claim.
Not being funny but I could have told you number 8 for Paulinho is the best bet and I live in York with no inside contacts whatsoever. And I wish people would stop freaking out and overeacting - It's a month till the season even starts.
But this is a big problem of ours, TJ. so many of our eventual signings never get a preseason with their new teammates. it's a deadline day (or there abouts) rush where we're 3 games into the season before we've got the players we need.
I def saw one on Benteke - claimed 5 yr deal, £18m, £85k/week and the #9 shirt. I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that we won't sign a decent striker this window. I say 'decent' as, if we do sign anyone, it'll probably be Remy - a player who is probably going to make Adebayor look like Messi. On AVB - if Barcelona pay his release clause, believed to be €12m then he'll be off I think - he's had next to no backing from our owners. We have an ambitious manager who, with the right support, looks like he could be really good and we don't want to back him. Some of the reasons for not backing are completely legit - new stadium etc. but with Bale effectively becoming a brand now, now is the tipping point in terms of backing the manager with some key signings. And yes - Bale is a brand - you only have to look at this picture of Times Square, NY to realise it: please log in to view this image
Soldado is pretty much our last remaining striker option up front, as someone who would improve us. Dzeko would - but I can't see City selling him to us for anything reasonable and he wouldn't want the wage cut. We might get Remy and keep Ade, Defoe, Kane and Dempsey and try again for another year. I might go put a bet on us finishing 5th again.
Barcelona signing AVB would be a massive risk for him and them...he was considered a failure at Chelsea and is rebuilding his reputation ... if he went to Barca and they are over taken by RM then he will be consigned to being a **** up at "big clubs" and unloyal at "smaller ones". As for big money signings...£25m for Benteke? really...£25mfor one good season? And how loyal would he have been to us if (an that's a big if) he did equally well next season in a spurs shirt...he'd have been whoring himself out like a shot. splashing millions is no guarantee that we'll get a top goal scorer that will fit into our style of play etc...we bought paulinio (excuse spelling) for a club record and in all honesty he is needed...we really suffered without sandro from January onwards Sandro and Kaboul will be like new signings...townsend will be an asset and Ade will have had a proper pre season ( which he didn't have last season)...we still need another striker but some of this reads like we were **** last year...we got our highest ever points total in the premier league era so we do not need whole sale changes
I said the other day how I think it'll be remy. As things stand, I'd be happy with that. He's not a bad "last resort". His current situation has levy written all over it.
Cardozo for that price makes my stomach turn. One of my favourite players and is absolutely lethal. That price is a joke we should have been all over that.
