If the name change is scrapped, it'll be due to the success of fan pressure rather than someone putting the fingers in their ears and humming until the nasty thing's gone.
What a waste of time it was listening to Nick Thompson last night. Almost half the programme spent on waffle and Nick having to answer the same tired question (re.club name). So much more he could have answered if Sportstalk was properly structered and planned out. Hull Tigers is cute actually. Hull City Tigers is better than Hull City AFC imo. How many times do we ever use AFC. Alot to do about nothing imo.
Owners come and go. Some are good, some are bad, some are criminal. In my time watching City I've seen, amongst others, the Needlers, Robinson, Fish, Hinchliffe and Buchanan, Wilby and Lloyd, Adam Pearson, Bartlett and Duffen, the Allams. Like I say, some good, some bad, some criminal. So, it's the Allams' club in the legal sense at the moment, but it's not their club in the wider sense. As I'm sure they themselves have said, they bought it for the people of Hull and East Yorkshire. It's not their club in this deeper sense. It's part of the fabric of a city, it belongs with emotional force to thousands of people, and thousands more who have identified with it at a deep level over the past hundred years and more. It belongs to me, to you, to those commemorated on the plaques in the East Stand concourse, to my children just beginning to love watching City. To baldly state that it is their club and they can do what the **** they want with it is perhaps the most venal and uncomprehending comment that can be made about football these days.
I'm afraid your post is far too well reasoned and uses far too many words that PattyNchips2 won't recognise, it will be well beyond him. He'll probably think he's being complimented.
I think some are more offended by the sly manner it's being done. And I totally empathise with that. As far as I'm concerned they'd be entitled o make a bold statement and say clearly that this is how it's gonna be from now on. At the end of the day I am not upset about the change. I don't see how it will change my love or support for the club. I don't think it sounds unappealing. I'm still gonna refer to it as "city" and so will everyone else. like I said, no one did get our name right anyways so what's going to be so different? it's not like hull tigers is degrading in any way. I actually like it. I wouldn't vote to change things but I don't think it sounds bad.
What is all the fuss about ? The reasons being given so far by Nick Thompson are fine with me. In saying that, my opinion will change IF ever the "city" is dropped. I prefer Tigers to AFC actually.
I doesn't surprise me in the slightest that you think it's a good idea. What do the lads at the snooker club think?
To be fair Papa is a successful businessman (no one can argue with that), so he must have a sound business reason (whether a lot of the posters on here will agree with his definition of sound) for wanting to change the name. Heritage and history have been talked about a lot - but in 70 years time, what is happening now will be the history and heritage of the club - and we all now are hoping for a long run in the PL and a cup final in the next few years. And if the name is changed to Hull Tigers (agree with the poster that said it was a cute name) and we have the success then will the name change really matter to those future fans. Let's not forget how Liverpool started as a club (there were probably similar dinosaurs back then whinging on) and I don't think anyone is wanting us to go down the MK Dons route
I admire the sentiment and respect their opinion on the matter I just can't relate as I am not offended by a slight name change. it's be more offended by getting rid of black amber stripes or the tiger symbol to camels or crocodiles. Ironically this could turn into another Egypt upheaval . Some see it as a dictatorship and want to gbe the power to the people (fans). Fair enough. Personally I don't think I am in a position to tell them what I want or don't want as I did not save the club.
Definitely the way it's being done is a major issue for me. Even a lot of those apathetic to the change seem convinced it's coming, so the club either needs a stronger message putting out, or admit what they're really up to. The "business only" simply doesn't work for me.
Isn't Al-Ahly's animal an Eagle? Maybe they're merging the clubs because of all the turmoil and we're going to enter the Al Ahly team into the reserves/youth league for the season. Or start up a Hull City Cairo in the Conference
I said three years ago that we should judge the Allams only after they've left. There's always room for them to ruin the good work they've done, and it seems they might be in the process of doing it. Allam Snr has said a lot about his 'gift' to Hull, but let's be honest - it's not a gift, it's him buying our debt from someone else.
