I was chatting to a mate of mine and we agreed that if we found people whinging about the heat we'd offer to string them up from the nearest sturdy bough.. :)

You're not complaining about the heat. It's the humidity that's getting to you. Being an island, Britain has so much humid air that a reasonably warm day feels like an absolute belter. If this heat was in southern France or Italy you'd be thinking... hmm, nice warm day, simply because the general level of humidity in the those regions is incredibly low compared to here. This also means that when night time comes, their early hours are comfortable and cool, whereas ours are relatively hot and sticky. Humidity. It's a bugger..! :)

By the way, another few days/weeks of this and the humidity level will drop and then, despite the temperatures being just as high, we'll all feel much better. As it is, you're in Britain. It won't last, so just enjoy it while you can.

I am not very fond of seriously hot weather, but we've waited years for this, so I will not complain. It helps being part-time...think I might feel differently if I worked full time in a city. Just done a calculation (because I'm bored and we haven't bought anyone recently) that I work less than 10% of the year. Hurrah for me!!

I was sat out in the sun for three and a bit hours today in shirt, trouser and tie. Way too much.

Came home and just fell asleep.

If anyone remembers the summers of the early/mid noughties ending at 2006, they will note that we had summers that were high in heat and low in humidity, because we didn't have much of the early spring rains that have returned since 2007 [and new summer downpours and floods]. This year we have had a few weeks of genuine heat, but there is still a lot of humidity in the air, hence the discomfort.

I can remember those mid noughties summers [2005 and 2006 especially] as fantastic years for sailing. Not a jot of humidity [even less so on the water where it is retained in the water] with crystal clear days and light breezes that allowed us to get the biggest sails up and zip across the water. One day we were plaining in our old Albacore dinghy and we chased the J-Class boat Endeavour up Southampton Water so hard that the crew applauded our efforts. In response we very visibly got out a bottle of red wine and poured it into our plastic cups, while still singing along. Their response was the put their champagne glasses down, tighten the sheets and walk away from us, still applauding. That was fantastic, and all possible because of a superb summer. :)

I was staying at the girlfriend's and had the day off yesterday so went to Guildford lido, which was quite nice, although it was pretty busy. Today was fine in the office but the nights in London are a killer. As TSS says, it's the humidity inside that makes it hard to sleep. Leaving a window open isn't really an option though.

Being able to sleep is more important than being bitten to death by insects <laugh>

That's out of order DTLW. You have a duty to the members of this forum to keep constantly on the ball in regards to Saints rumours. FFS what were you thinking? 3 hours?
    Anything could have happened! :)

Buses in this weather are not fun. It's essentially a 30 minute magic sauner ride. I'm not wishing the weather away though. The days that I get to work on the beach are even better then normal. Bliss.

Insects are a bugger but it's the noise that means the window has to stay closed.

I`ll never forget my first summer in Soton in 1976 - it was scorching. The Lido was still open. Some pubs had run out of lager, and were selling chilled bitter (Trophy etc). Saints had just won the cup. The Boys Are Back in Town was playing all the time. Happy days.

For me, it's all about the summer of 09. What a summer that was. And the weather was hot as well. Though rather than Thin Lizzy or whover, I kept hearing Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams and Beautiful by Akon. Good times.

Definitely not a fan, but very sad all the same.

Lost a friend to that **** a few years ago and absolutely no one knew they were doing it, apparently for years whilst holding down a decent job.

See I don't have any sympathy for people who abuse substances like that, especially when it's someone like that who has it all.

How awful. I feel so sorry for Lea. Glee's just not gonna be the same, and all the many songs I have on my MP3 player with him in now have an added poignancy (especially Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life))

Environmental Hazards and Disaster Management at Kingston Uni. Only 3% away from a first (slightly disappointed at that) but very happy overall.
