I know throwing him in to open in an ashes having played in 3 tests is not the best idea. . I'd rather be wrong on the point.
But if he fails to score in the next two it might cost us The Ashes (given our current propensity to collapse). Like you I think he's taylor made to open but I personally think he should have been left at 5 for this series. I'd have had Trott open but I really do like Root and he is capable of scoring big so fingers crossed for the second Test. We could do with a classic Cook second innings knock tomorrow that's for sure. If him and KP go cheaply I think we're ****ed.
Cook and Pieterson did well to steady the ship yesterday. They need to bat through at least the first 90 mins today. Should be another interesting day
