right, first of all, why would his current club announce he's passed a medical somewhere else? never heard of a club doing that before so i'd guess that's made up. and secondly, very strong reports from the netherlands are now saying the toivonen deal is dead and i have to say, i'm inclined to believe them so i assume we will move on to new targets for the creative spark in the midfield.
Bassong is good on the ball, but his passing is inconsistent. I can remember a few horrendously under-hit passes to Garrido causing us some problems!
i'd tread with caution on the whole medical front. fc twente always claimed fer never even had a medical at everton. they stated that everton tried to reduce the fee at the last minute and that is why the deal collapsed. obviously everton claim differently but kenwright has form for this sort of thing - they missed out on another player for the same reason a year or so ago - i think he was algerian but can't say for sure. we may never know if he failed a medical or not but fer played almost a whole season last year and only missed 2 league games following the close of the window. if our team say he's fit, he's fit.
It'd be a shame, but if his heart isn't it it, there's no point him joining. Honda anyone? Love the Everton fan on twitter saying "Nah, we don't want Fer anyway, we've got Pienaar". What?
oh yeah, it could happen on 'fersday' - what i meant was, don't stay up tonight expecting news! it's not impossible, but very unlikely
Just updated the OP to reflect a few recent changes. Also, transfermarkt have got some values for transfer fees up, not sure how accurate they are but: Holt - £2.64m Vaughan - £765k and inbound: Olsson - £2.55m Redmond - £2.02m They reckon we've currently bought £13.5m worth of players for £14.7m, whilst £11.3m worth of players has left for £3.4m. For comparison: Swansea: £11.5m worth inbound for £8.1m spent, £3.5m worth departed for nothing Stoke: £6.8m worth inbound for £3.1m, £3m worth departed for nothing Sunderland: £15m inbound for £12.5m, £12.7m worth leaving for £11.3m - basically broken even so far surprisingly WBA: £440k worth in for nothing, lost £5.1m worth for nothing Everton: £11m worth in for £9.7m, £2.3m departing for nothing Southampton: £7m worth arriving for £8.8m, £1m worth leaving for nothing Villa: £15.1m worth in for £10.8m, £11.6m worth leaving for £2.6m Hull: £14m worth in for £5.9m, £4.4m worth leaving for nothing Palace: £3.7m worth in for £5.5m, £2m worth leaving Cardiff: £4m worth in for £7.7m, £700k worth leaving Not sure how helpful those stats are, as in terms of gains, we've currently spent £11.3m in increasing the value of our squad by £3.4m But the most canny clubs so far have perhaps been Swansea, Stoke, Sunderland, Villa, Everton and Hull, whilst ourselves and Southampton have done sightly worse, with Cardiff and Palace paying over the odds the most.
Dutch Football ‏@football_oranje 3m Word from Leroy Fer's agent is that no official confirmation of Fer to Norwich, until at least Friday. #Twente I bet you this deal won't happen!
dutch reports now saying on twitter: Word from Leroy Fer's agent is that no official confirmation of Fer to Norwich, until at least Friday.
Dutch Football ‏@football_oranje 2m Fer's agent may say deal could take until Friday, but all the evidence today suggests Fer to Norwich will go ahead!
I don't get why it should take so long? Medical done and guessing terms are agreed so why such a wait?
Stayed in a hotel at Volendam and there was a painting of a green single decker bus on the stairs with "Ormesby" on the destination board.
I genuinely do believe they've been playing us to get interest from a bigger club, there is no reason what so ever why it should take till Friday!
Maybe there's a "cooling off" period, where either club or player can walk away? If the €8m fee is accurate, it's a big fee for us, and a big move for the player.
maybe waiting international clearance which does take up 24-48 hours to get. that why they wait because if he don't get clearance the deal will not happen if he gets it he will
