Well given that, he's likely to accept a move anywhere slightly more readily. Like I said I don't see him coming here now but it's not inconceivable.

Why does everyone keep saying that Banega's eccentric ways don't impact him on the pitch? Of course they impact him on the pitch. He's extremely inconsistent. And when he is bad it's not just that he has a quiet game, he's horrible. If he played like the way he does on the YouTube highlights all the time there's no way he'd be available to Saints for this price.
Plus you know, he ran over his ankle with his own car. So I would say missing a season of football counts as impact on the pitch.
At the reported price and and given his potential, he still may be too good to pass up but signing him is a pretty huge risk, IMO.

Have to say I agree with this. Boruc is all well and good, but we don't want to start bringing in a load of unprofessional players, and Banega fits that description sadly. Wanyama is by all accounts a model pro so I'm glad we seem to have got him instead.
I really don't understand this "instead" thing, they're different positions? Last season Cork and Ramirez weren't interchangeable, so why would Wanyama and Banega be?
Banega is a defensive midfielder as well. Sure, he is a different type of player and can play further forward but there is an overlap and I don't believe we are seriously in for both of them.
In games he started, he played attacking midfield 19 times, defensive midfield three times and central midfield twice. Then 10 sub appearances which were basically all attacking mid.
But if we were it would make me sooooooo happy and I'm sure that's all Nicola cares about.
Ok, well he used to be more of a deep playmaker, in the Pirlo mould. I haven't followed his career that intently.
I stand by what I said about his personality though, and the same goes for Osvaldo. We have a very professional squad and I'd like to keep it that way ideally.
I believe he inherited Silva's role once he left for City, and then really became the focal point of their attack from almost a number 10 role once they lost Mata and Joaquin t'boot. Definitely would provide us with even more flexibility though, given how good we were at nicking the ball back last season adding the power of Wanyama and then Banega with very solid ball-winning abilities instead of Gaston and Davis who lack that it would give us a great spine of solidity. Just part of the reason that I'm drooling over that potential move, but unfortunately don't really see it materialising.
Also I think when you have an ethic as strong as ours you can afford to rehabilitate players with past misdemeanours, he wont affect our settled lads and we have enough steady heads to make sure he's not a bad influence on our younger guys. I trust our players and staff to be able to handle him correctly, if the fee was higher, like say Osvaldo, I'd be very worried about the gamble, but at the kind of price that has been touted if in some dream world he did want to come we almost can't afford not to take a risk on him. You can't pass up that level of quality for around £9m or so, eccentric history or not.
Without wanting to get into a "his personality isn't that bad" "yes it is" "no it isn't" battle, it's not really similar to Osvaldo. Clearly Roma actively want him to leave, several fans agree. He's a far bigger problem personality.
