Okay, it's time to decide what we want for an Anthem. Most people seem to think that Coldplay's 'Yellow' will work, but some people don't like it. 1881 are doing various polls on a variety of forums, so if you have an opinion, now's the time to state it. Personally, i find 'Yellow' perfect...and when we sang it at 3CR, it might have sounded a little off key, but if you saw the passion that flowed from the lips of the singers, you'd realise how passionate an Anthem it can be! Still, i don't want to influence anyone ..so...what's your preference?
I think Yellow will work. Up the tempo slightly from the 'studio' version and let the lines run into each other rather than a pregnant pause...
Would agree with Yellow. Some good lyrics in there which would transfer well... Maybe if they can make it a bit more upbeat like they've done with Blue Moon at Man City, you'll get more people joining in too Wouldn't say no to adopting Your Song as well, but maybe with a change of some lyrics, a bit like Liverpool have done with Fields of Athenry Also, would it be worth adding clips of each song?
Why does there only have to be one song? I can understand Yellow as an anthem but when we are 3-0 up something joyous and silly like Yellow Submarine would work.
there will be many chants i'm sure, but this vote is for an Anthem that will hopefully be around for a long time...one that we sing before matches etc...and will be reflected in banners etc...
The way things are going with our squad, we may have to develop this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3q8IHveOJ4 .. with H as the lead singer of course.
I'm probably too old to be a Coldplay fan but I find the idea of an anthem interesting. It does need to have a melody which is easy to follow, but also something less easy to define. The best of them make your heart miss a beat when you sing them. They are very emotional songs and convey something more fundamental that just a goal celebration. Blimey, I'm rambling this morning... Never mind, just thought I'd like to hear a version of 'Your Song' sung by 20,000 people...
Can't say I have heard the Coldplay song but if its as dreary and suicidal as most of their stuff, well aren't we supposed to be having something uplifting and/or funny? A good tune that everyone knows and can sing is a must too. Can't say I would vote for any on that list.
An anthem needs to be something that irregular attendees such as OFH and myself can pick up easily and I'm not sure "Yellow" falls into that category. As the club used to use it as the music when you were put on hold, could the lyrics to "Goodbye, yellow brick road" be adapted?
But if we adapt a song the lyrics and timings are not readily available to learn. Whereas im sure most on here already know some/most of the lyrics to yellow.
I think an Anthem should be the actul lyrics of the song, ratehr than a reworked 'chant', which is why I think Yellow would be good; Look at the stars, Look how they shine for you, And everything you do, Yeah, they were all yellow. No reason why we can't adopt other songs and reword them to make them relevant though
