He's beaten Murray in a slam before and took Nadal to 5 sets on his way to winning the AU. A former top 6 player. Can't judge a player by rank alone, especially when you have vultures like Ferrer - who has never won a GS and isn't a better player Nadal (4), Federer (5), Berdych (6), Tsonga (7) or Del Potro (8).

You're comparing to Verdasco to an elite player in Murray, who showed his class by rallying from two sets down.

His record in the last 9 Grand Slams he's played since 2011 is RU, W, RU, Q-F, S-F, S-F, S-F, S-F, RU.

Top drawer player on all surfaces against all opponents.

Djokovic takes the initiative in games and is more aggressive. He has a good defence, but doesn't base his entire game around it like Murray does.

Lisicki/Bartoli/Flipkens would all be worthy winners, but Lisicki has had the tougher run by a considerable distance.

Its funny, because i can change the names in your sentence and make it something you disagree with:

Bayern/Barca take the initiative in games and is more aggressive. They have a good defence, but don't base their entire game around it like Chelsea does.

Chelsea = Pushers

This is what I was getting at earlier.

DL = Puritanical only when it suits his agenda

On what basis is Murray an elite player? He's won 1 GS

How can you compare a team sport to an individual sport? Square pegs & round holes. There are far more variables in a team sport.

What a ****ing vacuous retort. It's nothing to do with "variables", it's about very comparable playing philosophies between the sports. It's very hypocritical of you to defend one philosophy when it comes to football, but attack a similar philosophy when it comes to tennis.

Erm, by the fact he's won a grand slam and by ranking. Those are the 2 main criteria.
He is ranked 2. That makes him the 2nd most elite in that criteria.
Lets look at the 2nd criteria and do it harshly. He turned pro in 2005, so we'll look at how many men have won a grand slam event since then (its a bit harsh to expect someone to compete for grand slam titles the year they turn pro i'm sure you'll agree). List:
Safin
Nadal
Federer
Djokovic
del Potro
Murray

That is 6 players in 8 years and Murray has as many as Safin and del Potro so he is actually 4th.

At what point does the 2nd-4th best player of his time not qualify to be elite?

Bull. I'm comparing the way they go about playing exactly like you were.

Davydenko was ranked #3, Henman ranked #4. Who remembers them? We overstate rankings. Until Murray wins at least 2 more slams he isn't close to being an "elite" player. Certainly not compared to Nadal, Federer and Djokovic.

David Ferrer is #3 rank as of Monday. There's no way in hell he's an elite player.

I remember both of them actually and neither so much as got to Grand Slam final let alone won one. Murray HAS won won and has got to the final of 5 others.
I never said he was as elite as Nadal/Federer/Djokovic, but he is elite.

Why are you just taking each criteria individually for Ferrer/Davydenko/Henman? I clearly wasn't hence i put Murray somewhere between 2nd-4th of his time (in reality it is 4th).
Ferrer not won a GS, so not as elite as Murray

Lets just agree you are wrong and move on.

It depends entire on your criteria. My understanding was you meant Murray was elite in terms of GS won but if you meant overall performance in slams then I'd agree Murray is elite.

Speaking of the ridiculous, have you seen these?

The Germans have added a new English word to their dictionary. It's ****storm, somewhat bizarrely. The spellcheck on my browser doesn't even recognise it. Or the word recognise. <doh>

Anyone watching McEnroe playing at Wimbledon ? I think he's going to kill this umpire in a minute !!
