Never have so many people tried to find out about Sheringham in Norfolk at one time. The only musical connection apart from Vaughan Williams which I can find is a group called The Sheringham Shantymen. So see we're getting desperate.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark here. The Sheringham Shantymen are all lifeboatmen and the service dates back to the Zeppelin raid ? Or..... are they so desperate that they want you to sing/play with them ?:emoticon-0116-evilg

Or... the musical term is Maestro, and you once lived in Sheringham ?

Close enough CH.

Sheringham is indeed my home town, and I still call it home <ok>

As for the zeppelin raid. It was by mistake. They apparently were heading for Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft docks, but got lost, and dropped the load on Sheringham.

If anyone has ever visited Sheringham, they would realise that the 'docks' consist of one small slipway, a couple of small ramps and a fleet of about 20 small crab boats <ok>

OK. A place where I once lived. A bus connects two towns/villages in England - it begins it's route with a 1 in 4 climb and finishes with the same descent in another county. Which towns are they ? Which historical event links these two towns - and which unique annual competitive event started at this time (Later involving a 3rd town) ?

Any clues?

I googled colognehornet and couldn't find anything, apart from your profile on not606 <yikes>

Porlock and Lynmouth is correct. The historical event has an exhibition dedicated to it in Lynmouth and has a tenuous link to something from the last question, the competition stemmed from this (Now, unfortunately also history) and was unique as far as I know.
