Not so long ago Dave and DHCanary were being slated for being too heavy-handed in issuing bans, now they are being slated for being weak in offering to rescind a ban. I would understand entirely if they decided they'd had enough and stood down. If that meant the board had to be closed because no-one deemed suitable was prepared to moderate it, too bad. I have moderated forums in the past, and I know what a difficult and frequently unpleasant task it is. They both have my utmost admiration, and appreciation, as did Thai and Maestro previously. Whoever the moderators are, their task would be easier if everybody would just (1) stick to the published rules and (2) avoided personalising disagreements. <ok>

FFS why are people so bloody touchy ? This is a football forum and with that comes wumming from rival clubs' fans. IMO it's all part of the enjoyment just give as good as you get that's what I say. A constructive thread discussing all things NCFC is great, but at the same time it's also a blast to have a spot of banter with the Binners. Try popping over to the Binner's board when Jonah gets angry, it's fecking hilarious. If anyone decides to leave this forum it's their loss they will soon be forgotton as someone else will take their place, CHILL OUT FELLAS !!

Thai, take a pill and Carry On posting please, I especially enjoy your input on a matchday <ok>

I have no idea why this thread hasn't been locked because it is the very epitome of a thread designed to inflame argument. Dave locked a topic I posted the other day expressing my dissatisfaction at the lack of transfer activity when to be honest I felt that was sufficently different to a thread of transfer rumours to warrant a new topic but then the Jed Steer to Villa topic was left unlocked which I find a little inconsistent but if I honestly cared then I would have sent Dave a private message and not done some ridiculous attention stunt as this thread.

Dave, just because a thread accuses you of heavy handed moderation does not mean it has to remain open.

That's another thing, I bloody hate it when threads are locked. They should remain open whatever IMO unless racist, homophobic etc etc

I also have Guru on ignore. I find him a pain, but I don't lose sleep over it. At the end of the day guys, if you find a thread too much then vlick that little red x in the corner of your screen, come back in a couple of days, and they'll be a whole bunch of new NCFC related topics to discuss. Don't leave indefinitely because of a sad, old keyboard warrior!

I think DM and kickitoff have just demonstrated exactly our problem!

As to this thread, I left it open as I knew I'd need somewhere to post about Guru's return, if nothing was said I presumed we'd have a thread along similar lines opened, so there was no benefit. Equally, we've been accused of bias, too strong-handed, etc before, so thought first before clamping down on something criticising us. Whilst the OP is very poor, if others felt they wanted to criticize us, at least it was a platform for hopefully a reasoned debate on how we should moderate. I'm not sure if thats been achieved or not to be honest!

As to your thread DM, I think it was a matter of consistency. Andy posted a similar, if less eloquent, thread shortly before, and several people asked for it to be closed. I think Dave acted as he believed people wanted (based on the other thread) and so as not to favour one person over another. Hopefully it didn't come across as an attempt to stifle any less than positive opinions!

Why would anyone ask for that thread to be closed.

Why would it bother people that much to ask for a thread to be closed, I just couldn't be arseed to waste the energy to complain it's so pathetic.

Why should an article written have to be mixed in with some mass generic thread just because it's a similar topic. Everyone knows of the transfer thread its a deliberate choice not to use it.

If you have a specific point you want to make separate then why should it be closed.

I'm sure the mods job is difficult but you have to admit, the more you get involved the more trouble you cause, this is not the first time.

Just leave people alone to get on with it

I don't get the chance to post as often as I would like nowadays as family time comes first with my little boy on the scene, plus work is more demanding right now. However, most days I find a few minutes to read any new threads.

After reading through this monster of a thread it appears to me, like somebody has already mentioned, the mods have a thankless task. It is a task made harder by the fact that people have differing opinions about how the site should fulfil their needs as a member.

Whatever your own personal views of how a forum should be run are completely immaterial. Whether you think it should be a free for all or tightly moderated matters not. This board has rules. The rules are there for you to read and then abide by. If you do not abide by the rules then be prepared for action to be taken. It is quite simple. If you wish to have a completely open forum I am sure there are others out there on the web free for you to use and I'm sure many members do so already. The same logic applies to people who think it is not strict enough.

I just believe people unfairly criticise the moderating to suit their own personal beliefs. All they can do is call it how they see it. I have never had any issues with how Thia, Meastro, Dave or DH have modded because if a rule has been broken or something has been closed a reason is always given to explain their decision which is all you can ask. Sometimes decisions go against you - blimming heck, we all know that after seeing some of the refs at Carrow Road over the years, but at least they have
the balls to stand up and put themselves forwards to do an incredibly difficult job which will never appease everybody as there is such a diverse membership on this site.

I for one enjoy reading the opinions from the various perspectives that we encompass in here. That's why it will be sad to see people leaving. All I can say is don't go Thai - you're a legend mate and always give a great viewpoint and Munky (Birthday Soul Mate) now we both have little uns I understand fully you are putting other things first but don't stop with the occasional chip in.

It's fair to say that the mods get it right more often than not and cater for the majority of decent people who wish to take part in, for the most part, constructive conversation. If you chose to use the site, then don't have a hissy fit if you are deemed to have stepped out of line but just for once... how about a vote on the Guru debate of whether he should be allowed to return - power to the people on this one! At least we will have a valid representation of the sense of feeling running amongst users.

Could we have a public poll - (I don't care who knows my feelings on the matter) or send pms to either DH or Dave who could then count and report back the findings as this is one of the issues that would be helpful to sort out once and for all as it has been a divisive issue and has split the board. It would also take the heat off you mods as the people would have spoken! Just a suggestion as a complete one off.

Agree with most of what Chris has said.
Having been a member of a number of forums (forii??) covering various subjects, I've seen many times just how difficult it is to be a mod.
It's quite literally a (mostly) thankless task.
Mods usually end up putting themselves in the firing line of some hideous personal abuse that wouldn't be in any way acceptable in the "real" world.
And the reason they do it isn't for some kind of power trip. It's usually done to try and make a board as fairly-run as possible for as many users as possible.

Hell, there's no way I could ever be a mod because I wouldn't even come close to the "benevolent dictator" level that's needed.
"Ruthless, power-crazed, Secret-police-wielding, hide-the-bodies, mad as a hatter" dictator would be my basic starting point.

I'm always impressed at the lengths that the mods on this board have consistently gone to, to try and keep everybody happy. (Which is of course an impossible goal). I'd have bounced a hell of a lot more people out the door on at least a temporary basis by now, and who gives a crap if it made me unpopular or not.

So I urge everyone to take a breath and try and appreciate how good our board really is. If in doubt, spend some time on the General Discussion part of the site to see how the anything-goes style of internet discussion ends up.
