I think the other difference is that the Steer thread is about a done deal, confirmed by both sides. Some people love transfer gossip, others loathe it, so putting all the gossip in one thread makes sense to me, as it keeps it from dominating. However, those who don't like gossip will in all likelihood be interested in completed deals, so I don't personally see it as a problem for those to get their own thread.
The Ruddy thread is a rumour with, to me, very little substance in it, so I think it makes sense that it goes in the big thread, along with things like the Pilks to Stoke and Johnson to Swansea rumours.
As to moderation, we've got a fine line to tread between stifling debate, and letting things get out of hand and driving people away. We're not always going to get it right, we're only human, but I think everyone understands that we've got the best interests of the board in mind whenever we do anything. If the vast majority of people disagree with something, I'd personally like to think we'd take that on board and act appropriately, this isn't meant to be a dictatorship or Dave's little empire!
On the Guru issue, clearly several people feel we got it wrong, but others supported us. In any event it's academic now as he's left the site. However, I'd personally like to apologise to the Ipswich board as our actions appear to have cost them a frequent poster (and they don't have many!), but from our perspective, we were only acting in what we thought was the best interests of the Norwich board, which is what we're primarily responsible for.
I'm more than happy for us to be queried on our actions, but personally I'd prefer if it was done less confrontationally, ideally by PM. Whenever I receive anything, I usually try to respond as quickly and openly as possible, and hopefully those who have messaged me will have found that the case.
