Not been on here a while, and I can see I've not missed much. Turned into something far worse than the old 606 as I'm sorry Dave, but you have turned into a Class A twat! You seem to have developed a sarcastic approach to dealing with people, I hope that works out for you. Feel free to ban the **** out of me from this board, I assume that's what makes you feel like a man. It was well worth the ban Have a good one.
What, all because you had a thread closed down and moved under the generic "mega-transfers" heading? Over reaction just a tad, methinks? (You could have used the 'private message' facility to contact our Moderators to explain your reasons for this angst, was there any need to do so in public? Just me thinking out loud - as you appear to be doing )
Ahhh the summer! Time to kick back, relax, enjoy the sunshine and anticipate another season in the sun.... Chill man, life is way too short for this stuff
Has everybody gone do-lally for some reason? I just don't get why people get so angry. Its a football forum. There are rules. Abide by the rules and everything is just peachy. Cross the line and you will get an explanation of what you did wrong. Cross it again and you run the wrath of the mods. What's so difficult to comprehend? Seems to me people are too wrapped up in their own importance and feel they can do what they like on here. You have a thankless task Dave and, without wanting to sound like the teacher's pet, I for one think you do an excellent job baring in mind you cannot please all the people all the time etc etc.
Thanks Chris, your support is much appreciated! I expect a negative reaction from the other side, but it hurts a bit when it comes from the home team!
I think some people fail to see that moderators have to take the larger view. If there are too many posts on the same subject, then that needs sorting. Also, if somebody like Guru is constantly just breaking up threads for the sake of his own ego and it's putting off other posters (as it has done me on several occasions) then it's counterproductive in what is a discussion forum. We all fall out with each other from time to time, but it's usually about football issues. When it isn't, then moderators have to, well 'moderate' in the interest of all posters. So from me as well, Dave, keep up the good work!
Interesting that after a (fairly) lengthy period of absence, Beef returns yesterday with some valid points - only to get slagged off and abused by another intrusive binner, JWM. Hardly an incentive for the guy to return, is it? No sign of Redruth or Tony Munky for ages, either, both of whom had many valid points to make on a whole range of issues. Good work binners What is a mod to do? Ban people and get grief, let things lie and risk genuine caring city fans fall by the wayside?
The OP is a massive over reaction, but the mods do need to be careful to be consistent. The Jed Steer to Aston Villa thread has 50 odd interesting replies, and IMO has been correctly left open. The John Ruddy to Chelsea thread got two replies, one of which being a polite but curt closure of the thread. In general the moderating on here is OK. DH canary has started the excellent Transfers Thread, but I doubt he ever meant to create an unwritten "the word 'transfer' shall not be written on any other thread" rule.
RT, my objective was to keep them all in one place because either you'll get hundreds of repeated bits of news in hundreds of different threads making the board very untidy, maybe even unreadable, or some items will be missed altogether! the "Jed Steer one was not seen by me, because of a hospital appointment, until it had really taken off and it would have been criminal to close or move it!
I think the other difference is that the Steer thread is about a done deal, confirmed by both sides. Some people love transfer gossip, others loathe it, so putting all the gossip in one thread makes sense to me, as it keeps it from dominating. However, those who don't like gossip will in all likelihood be interested in completed deals, so I don't personally see it as a problem for those to get their own thread. The Ruddy thread is a rumour with, to me, very little substance in it, so I think it makes sense that it goes in the big thread, along with things like the Pilks to Stoke and Johnson to Swansea rumours. As to moderation, we've got a fine line to tread between stifling debate, and letting things get out of hand and driving people away. We're not always going to get it right, we're only human, but I think everyone understands that we've got the best interests of the board in mind whenever we do anything. If the vast majority of people disagree with something, I'd personally like to think we'd take that on board and act appropriately, this isn't meant to be a dictatorship or Dave's little empire! On the Guru issue, clearly several people feel we got it wrong, but others supported us. In any event it's academic now as he's left the site. However, I'd personally like to apologise to the Ipswich board as our actions appear to have cost them a frequent poster (and they don't have many!), but from our perspective, we were only acting in what we thought was the best interests of the Norwich board, which is what we're primarily responsible for. I'm more than happy for us to be queried on our actions, but personally I'd prefer if it was done less confrontationally, ideally by PM. Whenever I receive anything, I usually try to respond as quickly and openly as possible, and hopefully those who have messaged me will have found that the case.
Well said DH, just one thing I'd like to query, and I mean this seriously, just how much of Guru's time spent on not606 was actually spent on his home forum? I would hazard a guess that most of his time was spent on here!
I don't know about criminal but it's the only thread I've ever started and my Not606 career may never have recovered from the setback if you had closed it...! Sorry if starting a new thread was the wrong choice but, as DH has said, the content seemed a little more factual. Dave, perhaps you can let me know when your next hospital appointment is, so that I can be ready with my next effort?
