Dutch media quote the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet on the transfer of Toivonen. Apparently, PSV's techincal director Marcel Brands has told them that that PSV and Norwich have struck a deal over Swedish midfielder Ola Toivonen. Norwich is now in negotiation with the 27 year old Toivonen who scored 56 goals in 117 games for PSV Eindhoven in 4.5 seasons and joined the club in 2009. He has one year left on his contract at Eindhoven. Source: http://www.nu.nl/sport/3513197/psv-bereikt-met-norwich-akkoord-toivonen.html
Nope this is new, two weeks ago I reported that Brands was in England at Heathrow, saw him personally. Back then it was rumours, no confirmation whatsoever. Brands now has officially stated that PSV have brokered a deal with Norwich and player negotiations have started. In other words, Norwich is very close in signing Toivonen.
Well I'm pleased if we are about to sign him, whether he'll be pleased with what Hughton possibly has in store for him is another matter.
I'm not sure why he would have reason to have doubts with what Hughton has in store for him. A Manager who stepped up when our 'messiah' walked out and did what he had to do with a side not of his making. He shored up a leaky defence which looked like it would concede with every opposition attack, and kept us in the mix which is all we could have hoped for at that time. OK, we are under no illusion that going forward has been disappointing, but with an exciting new forward, and the possibility of a potentially exciting attacking midfielder to come, it's all looking ok, isn't it? I doubt it will stop there, and we should judge once he's created his own team. I. for one, am looking forward to what may be, and see no reason to be critical of anything the guy has done so far. This has all been said before of course. but some people just can't see it.
I don't think the defence looked like conceding on every attack. Neither did you. He shored up a leaky defence by putting 8 players in it, not really a tactical masterstroke. Probably the easiest way to go about it I like the players. I just find the manager to be a nasty, abhorrent and anti football. I don't want my team created in his image.
You really shouldn't tell me what I think. It will invariably be at odds with you. He did what he had to do, he will be judged next season. If you turn out to be right, then, sadly, so be it. I don't get the nasty, abhorrent comments, totally unjustified. I like the guy, actually prefer him to the previous guy, though that's no slur against his achievements, for which I thank him.
I think you are the only person in the world that thinks Hughton is "I]nasty[/I]"! His football wasn't the most attractive at times but he came into a squad he didn't know and kept it in the premier league. Why are you so intent on putting him down at every turn?
Because we played awful football under his stewardship. Plus his blaming of the strikers for the lack of goals when he was blatantly overkilling the defensive aspect rankled with me. He's nasty because of his mindset of anti football, it won't change. It will be the same, just with better players, and everyone will applaud but ignore the underlying fault with the style, just as they did in the middle of the season. I think Hughton is a truly awful person to have in charge.
Why do you say 'possibly'? It implies that what you keep telling us about CH's style of football may actually be mistaken. As regards Toivonen, and RvW and any other of Hughton's signings (which you say you actually think are quite good), do you really think they don't discuss and approve of what the guy signing them 'has in store' for them? How come someone who is so 'anti-football' nevertheless can make these 'pleasing' signings?
I think it best to just ignore carrabuh rantings. No matter how well we do under CH he will still not accept his abilities.
I can find nothing to substantiate this news - nowt on the Wigan 'Newsnow' page. But it's only around 100 miles from Wigan to Carlisle, so the demographics would make sense - more so than a move to Crystal Palace, which was rumoured before they spent £6m on Dwight Gayle
It's the Daily Fail. They are expecting reality to click in on 1st July and are just getting a few good fantasies in before it does.
