Just bumping because Vinny has posted on this thread but people might not have noticed due to pre-moderation.

Thought i'd have another listen in the break at Glastonbury, and it seems to sound much better the second (and third) time around.

That '4 or 5 Canners' is quite humourous as well, it was enjoyable.

Certainly way better than 95% of the current top 40...

yeah, i actually like it, it's good stuff, the only thing criticism i can come up with is, just how awful the hull accent is <laugh> Why is our accent so ****e! I'm def putting this on my iphone tho, it's great original music!

Actually in love with this band, it makes me smile, makes me feel happy! it's great to be honest!

I listened to bbc radio humberside and callers were ringing.. i've never before realised just how awful the hull accent is.. **** sake, is that what i sound like when i leave the city.. i shall cry myself to sleep

Alister McGowen been to Hull recently to check out the Hull accent - not that anyone will know when to watch the programme:

He said: "Irish immigration could account for this similarity with Liverpool and, like Liverpool, Hull is a major port.
"For centuries, ships from countries like Scandinavia and the Balkans have docked here with their international crews. They have all influenced the local accent."

Cobblers.

The clue is in the local place names- many of which have norse suffixes.

It's due to Viking settlement centuries ago - not Balkans seamen, FFS.

I think he probably thought he was in Newcastle, but took a wrong turn.

I love the Hull accent, wish I still had mine, but being in the RAF and moving around almost my entire life means you tend to lose stuff like that. I still say "skerrn" though, much to the witch and daughters amusement. Scown or Scon just sound frigging stupid to me.

Many happy times hearing the distinctive accent in a bar, asking where in Hull they're from, then sharing a few beers.

in Texas not many can understand my accent.
mind you theres is a little hard to understand too

you mean scone? as in s-cone?

I think ppl doing something constructive is a hell of a lot better than ppl that darent do that sorts thing cos of ppl criticizing like most ****ers on here are doing!
I spose you would all be happier if they were breaking into homes and mugging grannies.

More than one old Southern lady has told me I have a lovely accent whilst on holiday. During my travels to Turkey, my complete omission of the 't' in 'water' caused much amusement among the locals (or lercals). I was born and raised in Beverley to Beverlonian parents, so my accent's basically the same as that of Hullensians. I have found that even when I'm as close to home as the West Riding I have to make a conscious effort to pronounce certain words (including my bloody name FFS) in a more 'Southern' or 'General English' accent.

i like it , it makes me smile unlike the serious pretentious **** i am spoon fed in the charts .
I would say dropping the H might make it a bit more 'ull like
Oh and merge any random sentence into one long word is another thing we do quite well :)

Good **** , !!!!

Well done Vinnie Lad!
I quite liked the "I'm not from America" vid as I said in an earlier post right near the beginning of this thread and just watched the "4 or 5 canner". Really liked that one too. (Must admit the lasses didn't hurt).

Vinnie - Just saw your post, and watched 4 or 5 canner, and genuinely loved it. I really think we should adopt the other one as a team coming out song at the KC and the chorus for the terraces.

Of course not everyone's gonna like what you do, but think on this: Not everyone in the 80s loved Sonya. I Know, crazy.

Keep on doing what you're doing, with that sense of humour and you'll be right.

Good effort Vinnie.

Must admit when I read the title I thought it was someones opinion on the WYP situation, but not slagging a fellow Hullensian.

I'm with you Happy. I look forward to hearing "We're not from America, we're from Hull" being sung from the terraces. Would make a particularly good away chant I think.

Incidentally - you do seem happier these days Happy. Just need to get you clapping now!
