I can't really imagine he'll command those kind of amounts with his injury situation and presumably, depending on the length of his current contract, Sunderland may well be willing to trade well below that sort of fee. He's only 25? and with his injury situation will probably be more interested in length of contract than weekly pay but will have to be realistic in his demands, all things considered!

Can promise you mate we will want at least 3 mill

So you want £3 million for Cattermole, just like Birmingham fans want twice what we are rumoured to be paying for him, and Leicester fans want £5 million (I think it is) for Kaspar - good luck getting that sum from any club who aren't willing to pay over a certain amount.

Would we just be signing him for the sake of it? Just because he's available?

Do we really need this type of midfielder?

Strikers please.

It is frustrating not having enough info in a link if your in a rush , but can't believe people take the time to complain to mods about it , ha...is points of view not on anymore or something? . Wish I had that much time on my hands

Deano started off in midfield. Bring him back and play him as the defensive midfielder.

Deano and Ash could play a half each in that role. I bet they wouldn't cost much either.

I would sooner sign Gary o Neil as a freebie than cattermole

HAve you seen O'Neil play recently? He's terrible.

Anyway, a Sunderland perspective regarding Cattermole - a fully fit Cattermole would be a great buy for you. He's a far better player than many give him credit. But that's the problem he's 25 and he's not playing much due to injury, not suspension. He needs an extended run to get into the groove. I think he'd immediately be your best CM and worth a risk.

Regarding the 2 ex-Sunderland players - Elmo's fine when things are going well but wait till it get's tough for him in the Premiership and you'll see he's got the heart the size of a pea. Meyler on the other hand, in my view, could be a great player in the Prem, if he remains fit. I really hope he does because he's got a great attitude.

Sunderland fans all seem to have the same opinions on Elmo,so i can take it as said,he was poor for you. We seem to have got lucky with him though.

The heart of a pea ? Elmo got kicked to **** playing in the championship with us,and the lad never even blinked. Remember,he was playing the wing back position for us,easily the hardest position on the pitch.

Anyway,i guess you will see for yourselves <ok>

To be fair elmo did look a bit weak at the end of the season but I think that was due to fitness and injuries more than anything else

I know I haven't seen cattermole play for a while because he is either always injured or suspended !

I am very wary of what SAFC fans say about him.

Some players look like world beaters in the Championship and do nowt whereas others can flourish at both.

Former category: Halmosi, Wayne Brown

Latter category: Myhill, Turner.

As regards Paul MacShane, there appears to be a collective amnesia about his time in the Prem, specifically in 2010 where he basically seemed to have a total collapse of self-belief after one or two glaring errors. He was basically not fit mentally to play.

I hope he's coming back mentally stronger than last time. Hi panicking at Oakwell which led to their second goal does not augur well for next season when he will come up against far better players and bigger crowds.
