Problem for Gaston was that he was chasing Spanish players around out of possession and then when Uruguay finally got a hold of it they hoofed it over his head, he had the second lowest number of touches after Forlan who only played 21 minutes, not the ideal situation for the supposed playmaker of the side to find himself in.
Uruguay have probably the best pairing upfront of any country, the problem is the rest of the team and system of play is pretty dire. They struggle to control games and are in real danger of not going to Brazil, when you consider Brazil are automatically included, 4 teams qualify and the 5th team has to play a play off spot, for Uruguay not to be amonst the 6 top teams in South America after winning the Copa 2 years ago will be a disaster. They have never really played with the same flair as other South American teams and at times are just plan nasty.
For those that don't mind a late one, Yoshida and Japan take on four time World Cup winners, Italy this evening. It will be a chance for Maya to pit is wits against the highly rated Mario Balotelli. The Azzurri are one of the tournament's most fancied sides and will represent a tough challenge for Japan. It's last chance saloon for the Samurai Blue, as defeat will almost certainly spell the end of the tournament for them. We wish Maya the best of luck! Live coverage starts tonight at 10.35pm on BBC1.

Great technique again on the volley. How good does everyone think Neymar will be? And more importantly how good will this current Brazil side be next year ?
I know some people don't particularly rate him on here but I think he will be one of the best players in the world in the future.
Brazil look like they have the potential to be a real contender next year. They should improve the more they play under Scolari in this stint. Neymar is very good already and will get better.
I still think Spain are going to destroy them later in this tournament, they really are the finished article.
I think that Brazil will have a great chance next year with home advantage as well, and for me it will be between them, Spain and Germans. I really hope ****ing Spain don't win it again though. Think Belgium good shout for 1/4s as well.
Same here. Really thought he was overrated before this and, as others have said, be interesting to see how he does next year.
I dont think ive ever seen a performance from that justifies the 40 million or so that some clubs are willing to pay for him. David Luiz had a good game tonight.
