I wonder if he will ever eliminate the "cheating" part of his game? Spends almost as much time on his back as upright.
David Luiz... can... defend Just messing. He really does have the makings of an amazing player though, if he works on his defending. I really don't know if I would play him at DM to make some use of his obvious creativity, or play him as a Centre Back though. He's such an enigma!
If Brazil had a quality CM to defend over Gustavo they would be much more threatening, the gaps left in there defence is school boy at times. It has already been shown that average sides such as England can nick results against them, despite total domination for pretty much 90 minutes. They should also consider starting Lucas, Hulk is the laziest player I think I have ever seen! David Luiz was class, and Neymar obviously showing what he can do. Relishing watching him in Europe next season, think he will cause the modern 'full backs' a lot of trouble. Looking forward to seeing how Maya copes now. Thought he was actually pretty solid for Japan despite the result. Though I was half watching he made some crucial interceptions and his defensive positioning was good, also the commentator seemed to be saying his name every 30 seconds!
Whenever I see Luiz, he seems a very good defender, brave and reads the game well, just needs to cut out some of the poorly timed runs forward! For me, he always seems to waste position, bit of a Gerrard and over complicates things(hollywood), often losing the ball.
One thing's for sure Maya's going to get a work out tonight. Japan are going to have to do a lot defending I feel, let's see how he copes with Balotelli.
When I said work on his defending, I meant work on knowing how to play as a centre back. I agree with you, he reads the game exceptionally and always seems willing to put his head where it hurts. It's just a shame he isn't always where he should be to get himself in the way due to those lapses of concentration. It will be interesting to see if Mourinho can turn him into the finished article, or will use him as a midfielder.
Sorry, misinterpreted you! I agree, it's all about discipline and decision making for him now. I think Mourinho will use him as a CB, as if he wanted he could bring in a finished article of a DM, who would be better than Luiz! Also, if he can become a bit more grown up (not too much though!), the flair he has in abundance could really help Chelsea, by offering another player on the pitch who is a genuine goal threat. And it isn't often you get that from a centre half!
To be fair to Jonathan Pearce we did, we were a promoted team after all. Japan look good but I feel that Italy will be very dangerous on the break.
Yuh thought it was a really good save on first viewing! Both BBC commentators were calling for Buffon's head when the replayed showed theyre both in need of some binoculars!
