I would be totally fine with this happening, but even if it was would clubs start ripping their seats out? I can't see where the incentive would be apart from a mild PR bonus, it would only cost money in redesigning and reduced ticket income.

Surely it would actually be a cheap way of increasing a ground's capacity.

They would definately not lose money if standing was introduced thats for sure! And wouldn't they only do 1 stand. so pricing will only affect that, everything else as is?

Its a myth that reintroducing standing areas would cheapen tickets.

Knowing how football chairman think these days, they'd probably charge MORE for the priviledge of standing. Partly by saying it cost X amount to take out seats, install barriers or even the german safe standing rail seats etc etc. The clubs will recoup that expenditure somehow.

Plus the capacity would not necessarily increase much. For safe standing, they won't allow densely populated ends like in the old days. People won't be squashed in like sardines, there would be a calculation produced for area of terrace per capacity etc.

Plus the old bill would charge more to police terraces.

No quite sure how Peterborough continue to get away with having terraces in the Championship (appreciate they are relegated now so its ok to have them)

The Premier League needs to really take a leaf out of the Bundesliga's book. Season tickets average about 2 thirds less than they do in the Premier League. You get the option of being in a seated or standing area in stadiums and all tickets include public transport to and from the stadiums (trains, trams and buses). The only downside is you get 17 home matches instead of the 19 you get in England, but this is a small price to pay when you compare the cost of season tickets.

Most Bundesliga season tickets aren't significantly cheaper, only the grotty standing areas are dirt cheap. The rest are still cheaper, but it's misleading to say that it applies for anywhere near the majority of season tickets.

Okay, so now get the figures that show the average seated season ticket in the Bundesliga is 33% of the average seated season ticket in the Premier League. :)

Ok, not quite 33%, more like 50%. But this does represent a significant difference between the two leagues.

Yes it does. There's no denying there's a lot we can learn in this country from the way the Bundesliga is set up and run. Don't hold you're breathe though - Sky makes all the important decisions that effect the PL. Effectively, the PL is Rupert Murdoch's bitch.

Yes Murdoch makes every team pay crazy wages that have to be part funded by the ticket prices.

Yep, look at that "grotty standing area" at Dortmund. How vulgar. That's not what football is about.

CBK, aren't you upset at how many of them have bought into the commercialism? So much club tat in there, I thought you were strongly against spending big money for polyester? But yeah looks good, imagine being in a big sweaty den full of Northam boyz, bet that'd be fun and not **** and grotty at all.
