So Spain field an all La Liga XI v Uruguay?

But... But... The Premier League is so strong and La Liga is weak. Where art thou Senior Mata, Senior Azpilicueta and Senior Cazorla? <whistle>

Maybe you Chelsea fans just overrate your players, like Mata and Azpilicueta <whistle>

Seriously though, it's getting a bit sad now, you're grasping at even the most tenuous examples to prove your point. No one's questioned the quality of Barca or Real, which is essentially what the Spanish side is, just that they're not that strong beyond that. Also, I don't think anyone's been calling La Liga "weak", merely standing up for the Premier League as not being the poor league you have claimed it is.

Anyway, England regularly field all Premier League sides :D

Lighten up YV, it was only a joke

Will be interesting to see how Uruguay fare, but it's quite clear Del Bosque views the PL as 2nd rate.

Suarez and Cavani could have a field day with Spain's back line, interesting that they've gone back to Casillas and dropped Valdes.

In addition to yesterday's starting line up, Spain could field this front six
    Martinez Alonso
    Mata Villa Silva
    Torres

    or this one

    Garcia Arteta
    Navas Isco Cazorla
    Llorente

Just shows Spain are ridiculously strong in midfield and attack

The depth they have is unrivalled. Could field a 3rd team comfortably better than any England could field.

In Brazil the Latin European sides will be able to cope, but them aside only Germany, Belgium and Holland should go, nobody else from Europe will have a prayer of winning the cup out there, or even being competitive.

How many of their squad have come through the same two academies, though? The way that they've been allowed to dominate the sport over there is ridiculous.
Even the one non-Real or Barca player in the starting XI (Soldado) was at Real for a while.

Can we have a little respect for one of our own please! His career with Wimbledon is exceptional, only his health would put me off appointing him to a small budget club.

There are a few exceptions, with the exclusionary Basque sides seemingly contributing more than most, but the point still stands.
Their entire first XI and most of their squad either play or have played for Barca or Real. Puyol and Alonso aren't in it, either.

Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be a success there when he goes back... <whistle>

How can you judge the standard of an entire league from the standard of 11 players picked to represent their country?

A very tenuous argument which doesn't take us any further than the well trodden one about Real Madrid and Barcelona being on a different level to the rest.

I think I've mentioned this some while ago, but it's very true to say that Real ( especially) and Barca dominate Spanish football. However, they also have a monopoly on support. I live about 40 mins from Alicante. The nearest La Liga side is now Elche. Before that Hercules. But, it's very difficult to find a genuine supporter of either in these parts. The Spanish support here is almost exclusively Real - with a smattering of Barca fans.

they also have a monopoly on TV revenue by being allowed to negotiated their own deals. If We (Liverpool) could do that then our revenue would rocket, and as for United, it would go through the roof. It's not a level playing field across European leagues

Unfortunately, in a way, fans tend to gravitate towards success. As you say, the TV rights negotiating system here just ensures that the status quo persists. If the money were more equally divided, as in the EPL, then it may enable, over time, genuine and sustainable challengers to the duopoly to emerge. That, in turn, would encourage a wider spectrum of popular support.

75% of the Spain's football population claim to support Real Madrid or Barca. Staggering isn't it?

Andy Carroll is undergoing a medical for West Ham,how could anybody at Spurs ever have thought he'd be right for us? His transfer value is in free fall and after what I think will be an unsuccessful stint with them will drop even further and quicker. It fills me with no dread that he's going to West Ham.

If Carroll can cut out his "youthful antics" he's actually not a bad player. He just got lumbered with a ridiculous price tag that he was never going to live up to.

You'll find them all in the Premier League :) because their particular places in the top two Spanish sides are taken, they have no chance of playing for them, so they have sought better football elsewhere.

There is no connection to Spanish individuals and League strength, none whatsoever, the leading scorers in the league of Superspaniards are Argentinian and Portugese btw!
