Echo linking us to Creswell. Seen a fair bit of him - very consistent but also very average and really no better than Harding. Better than fox though! Shaw and targett probably mean we don't need him? !

Why was that a stupid comment? It seems very considered to me. Basically he is saying that we don't need another average left back. If we get another one it needs to be someone who can properly compete with Shaw.

Because Harding is so much worse than Fox. Fox was good in the championship and Harding wasn't.

    Poor Harding.

Shall we have an update on likely transfers.... apart from Astori who else are we seriously looking at/looking likely?

Luke had more than sufficient rest before every game and didn't play any international football. For his age he is a beast, internally his bones may still be growing and it is possible that he could suffer from overworking but he hasn't even come close to being overworked.

It's usually due to underworking or inherent weakness of other parts of the body that you get soft tissue injuries. Overworking is almost always due to not working on the right things. Given the investment in sports medicine at the club I have no doubt that we won't overwork luke shaw even if he plays 38 games next year. which he should be able to do with a good preseason and intelligent management. In saying that it wouldn't hurt to rest him as the mental toll should also be considered.

Shaw was overplayed and he didn't get enough rest. If you keep trying to play a 17 year old for 90 minutes he's bound to burn out and potentially get injured. He didn't have the stamina and got cramp or a niggle in a lot of games. We're very lucky he didn't get a proper injury. It takes a young player longer to fully recover between games. If he works hard in the off season his stamina will improve and he will be in a better position to cope next season.

Crikey when I was his age I worked a five and a half day week in heavy engineering, trained on a Wednesday evening, played football on a Saturday afternoon and again on Sunday morning, was out dancing on a Tuesday, Friday and a Saturday evening and went to night school the other two nights of the week and try telling that to nippers today and they wont believe you.

PS Missed out the shagging but can't remember when I used to get round to doing that.

The intensity and stamina required at the highest level is completely different. Along with mental demands. I doubt you were playing 45 minute halves either.

7 days preparation for 90 minutes intense exercise is more than enough. It's the training in between that needs to be monitored as that's where the physical burn out will occur. It's true that he wasn't always physically capable of playing 90 minutes much like Ramirez but this is not due to playing 90 minutes 7 days prior. To call it overwork is misleading and unnecessarily worrying - fatigue isn't overwork. The signs of overwork would be if he has muscular-skeletal problems.

Luke said that he came back to preseason last year in very bad shape which is most likely why he struggled for fitness during his first few starts.

When I say that 7 days is enough preparation it probably isn't if you are new to exercise but when you are a professional athlete after 4 days you will start to lose condition.

If a player doesn't have the stamina to play 90 minutes every game and you keep trying to play him for 90 every game then yes you are overworking him..That's just common sense.

Rumours and speculation aside. Have we actually officially approached or made a bid for anyone yet?

The club don't comment on transfers until they are completed, so it will only be rumour and speculation until announced on the OS.

If he can play 90 minutes every week he has the stamina to play 90 minutes every week. What you wrote didn't make common sense or any sense.

I like Cortese, but at times like this, when there is no saints news and nothing on TV but cricket! I really dislike the man <laugh>

So you want him to reveal to all our competitors the transfer strategy and all our targets for the summer?

Yes, it would be nice to know what the club are doing, but as fans we really don't need to know anything until a signing is announced on the OS.

Yes, I want him to reveal all our targets to the rest of the PL and for us to go down next season with Pochettino leaving us for Pompey on Xmas day.

If we're going to announce something there's going to be a rapid speed-up before Sunday. Absolutely nothing out there right now.

Hull have reportedly bid £4.5m for Hooper. Would be good at that price, I'd imagine....

Probably. Not sure they'll get him at that price, mind.
