Although CM is not a position we should be looking to strengthen really, Cabaye is a top quality player, I'm surprised no top6 teams have gone in for the lad. Done really well in the french league this year, by far the outstanding player of the season.

    I feel like we've missed a trick here, for £4m he's a snip. Nevermind...thoughts?

I agree from the little that i have seen he looks a very classy player, that said i think he's a player we probably don't need, and a player the Toon are crying out for.

I'd have took him, gladly, but i think he's a better signing for them than he would have been for us, if that makes sense?

Looks like the Toon are going to be looking to play good football going forward signing player of his and Ben Arfa's ilk, might make for a decent derby as we were physically overpowered by them, twice this season.

At that price he's a great signing, and if he flops they will double their money shipping him back to Marseille or Lyon.

BB - I understand, yeah, still think this lad is a top player...imagine Catts, Meyler, Colback and Cabaye as choice in the CM positions. And Sess too!

GbootB- I've just had a look on your board, and you state that the only reason you know Gervinho is any good is through FM11....so I'm going to choose to ignore your question, in order to talk to real football fans <ok>

Gervinho is one of them crazy players who can go from the sublime to the ridiculous, we have Gyan for that!

Again, he'll be a quality for you, in the same we we love Gyan, you'll love Gervinho.

    I reckon he'll do well, as i say, a Gyan/Cisse type <ok>

We have Tiote, Barton, Nolan, Guthrie, Smith, Vuckic and Ben Arfa who will play centrally so I have to disagree that we're crying out for a centre mid!

I think he offers something very different to what you have though, through balls and one touch.

Smith and Guthrie are ****e (go on, admit it), Nolan is good at what he does, but does little in terms of vision and creativity, Tiote is a very good holding and ball winning player, that leaves the V lad, who i don't know to comment on, Barton who may leave (this deal may be a factor in the lack of an offer), and the brilliant Ben Arfa, who is at his best out wide as he can beat men for fun, and his delivery is often exceptional.

    Aye? <ok>

Well I hope Smith leaves but I rate Guthrie. He sounds like a carbon copy of Barton from what I read so I suppose us needing Cabaye will fully depend on whether Joey goes or not, which the player said himself is not gonna happen!

Ben Arfa reckons he's a playmaker and wants to play centrally, and Pardew has said he'll be playing in the hole.

I think the positions at the minute we need to strengthen most are striker, right wing and right back

I hear that about Ben Arfa from a few of my Mag mates, but for me it's a waste, he's better crossing and going outside someone, not saying he can't do a good job in the middle, just that he's better as a wide man.

Cabaye isn't really like Barton, from what limited viewing i've had, he's much less physical and a bit more instinctive.

If you can find one quote where I've said that I'll declare that Sunderland are the best team in the world, I dont even play FM <ok>

Surely a talented psychic/wizard such as yourself would have better things to do with his time than post on a football forum?

I'm rather confident they will be. Barton is too stubborn to leave and Nolan really wants to stay. Plus, Ashley would be an epic moron if he tried to sell the players who are essential to our team spirit.

Tiote and Nolan are the only proven players that you will have available next season.

Barton could well be off if a decent offer comes in; Guthrie is ****e; Smith (are you ****ing taking the piss); Vuckic and Ben Arfa still unproven at the EPL level. Everyone thinks Ben Arfa is going to be the next Ronaldo? You will need to see what his injury has done to him first AND then assess whether he can hack it for a full EPL season and all that entails.

I think Newcastle have done well to get this lad, as he seems well respected but again, like all foreign players, there is no gurantee that a good French Player can become a good EPL player. Its still a huge gamble with the resources available.
