Hi lads, Of course, at this point, neither Ahmed Fathi nor Elmo are Hull City players, but thought you might be interested in seeing how they did today in Egypt's draw vs Botswana (friendly): http://www.kingfut.com/2013/06/04/video-hegazy-returns-with-goal-as-egypt-held-by-botswana/ Includes a video of Elmo's assist following some great play by Fathi (#7)
Thanks for the video Apthh. As a big fan of Fathi's talent, and one of a number of Hull fans who were baffled by his limited playing appearances with us, do you have any insights as to wether Ahmed would like to return to Hull. Bruce was recently quoted as being impressed by him. Do you think Al-Ahly will let him go???
Really? I think 1, maybe 2 will be back. The most likely two to return would definitely be Elmohamady and to some extent, Gedo, and I think we all know that we will probably only end up with one; Elmo. Bruce didn't seem to keen on Fathi for some reason.
Was Fathi a 'make-weight' on the loan? I.e. - we loan Gedo, a striker, on condition that we take Fathi along as well?
I think we'll get Elmo, but not the other two. Gedo's out for too long and is untested at this level and Fathi couldn't even get game time in the Championship. I'm sure Assem would like a couple of Egyptians in the squad, but I'm not sure Brucey is quite so keen.
I have a feeling that Gedo might come back if we don't land the striker we are obviously trying for. SB seems to be impressed with Fathi, unless his comments are just to appease the Allams. Elmo I think will be back, so it remains to be seen how things unfold.
I agree, but I think we might see Gedo come in January on loan rather than risk paying for him up front (if we were ever to go in for him at all). Not sure what the beef was with Fathi, aside from the slip up at Wolves, I can't see what he did wrong and he didn't look unhappy when celebrating promotion. He had great ball control and his passing was a joy to watch. As a utility player he was certainly a good option to be able to call upon. But if Brucey didn't actually want him there, then he was never going to play him. I think we'll be looking at that region for players, it's a resource that's not really tapped in this country and coupled with our owners, I think it's only a matter of time before you see some more Egyptian players arrive.
Gedo would be subject to fitness but for sure when fit he knows how to put the ball in the net. Both Gedo and Fathi would be cheaper options and we shall need good players for the cup games at least ? I hope that Bruce only uses the squad players for all cup games. Our better players should be kept for the PL matches imo. Agreed. Burnsy is sure that Bruce rated Fathi but like Rosie was a victim of the shape/formation he played. It would not hurt shirt sales in africa either to land the trio. Maybe we can get a 4th from the names mentioned. ??
