Apparently has been chatting to Wigan owner Dave Whelan...

Not too sure whether this is something to worry about or whether Mick is offering 'advice' as to who the best candidate is..

Personally I don't think Wigan could go far wrong with appointing Owen Coyle to continue Martinez's fine work <ok>

There's no way in a million years MM will jump ship to Wigan.
As for Martinez, i honestly think he's way overrated. Lovely guy, but finished in the bottom 4 or 5 every year since he's been there. He hasn't progressed the team, and they have stagnated for a number of years. Now that they have no income, i can definitely see them do a Bradford and get relegated back to the 4th division.

In fairness to Martinez, he's kept a team with a small fan base up in the top division, playing attractive football, whilst selling his best players (Moses and Valencia), without having too much to reinvest. Not to mention, he won the FA cup. In my opinion, with the right manager, he's given the springboard to go back up. Also they still have a lot more income than most of the teams in the Championship: Parachute payments anyone?

I think Wigan would be an interesting prospect for any manager tbh. Very good owner, well run club with a decent team who play good football. I don't see them doing a Bradford (although it depends who they appoint) but i think how next season goes for them depends on how they manage playing in europe.

But saying that I don't believe Mick would leave Ipswich, throughout his career he's always been very loyal, so I doubt given he's only been here a few months he would up sticks a leave.

As for Martinez, I see what you are saying perhaps being slightly overrated but not way overrated, you're being harsh on his acheivements at Wigan, it was always going to be difficult for a club that size to stay in the PL, let alone to win the F.A cup. I think it was inevitable they would get relegated eventually. When on form last season Wigan looked brilliant, their attacking play was superb but at the same time the defensive mistakes made sometimes were truely shocking, i think Everton would be a good fit for him, although he will certainly struggle to emulate the acheivements of Moyes!!

I agree Everton are the right sort of club for Martinez but I'd argue that Moyes (although having done a good job) has been over praised in his achievements at Everton. There's no doubt he's got them consistently competitive but he's not won any silverware and the club has quite a hefty wage bill (which seems to get regularly overlooked)

Good luck to them both though as they have both taken on difficult tasks <ok>

Does anybody else see the same thing happening with Moyes as with Clough when he took the leeds job on, Moyes being Clough and Fergie being Revie?

It's not a good fit as an analogy.Clough hated Revie and vice versa.I see nothing to suggest that Moyes will open by saying "OK you won twenty titles, but forget them, they were all by cheating".

He might suggest that they may not have Webbo, Clattenburg, Foy et al on board anymore, and that there'll be no more Fergie Time! <ok>

It might be a decent analogy for Hughton taking over from Lambert and pronouncing “you might have won back-to-back promotions from League One where this joke of a club belongs but you did it all by bloody cheating.”

I’d always thought Hughton was a decent bloke with a modicum of self-respect so you’d hope he’d at least have said that to assuage the embarrassment of representing you zit cream dependant ****ers.

Getting back to MM, I gather that he has had a huge bust-up with Evans over the financial constraints that have been placed upon him! I understand that ME is insisting on a wage cap of just £5K a week for new recruits! Thus could be serious if there is any truth in this of course but I am concerned that we will be repeating the same mistakes that we made last summer. I know it's early days yet but there is no smoke without fire!

I too fear that Mick is going to end up falling out with Marcus over our transfer/wage policy.
If ME doesn't back this particular manager then he isn't as smart as you would think. Now is definitely the time to invest well because I shudder to think what will happen if Mick turns his back on us.
