This is why this move does make some sense. After his QPR disaster, Hughes is in no position to make demands. He pretty much has to accept the terms set by a future employer, in order to get back into a Premier League job. If the Stoke board want to cut back on spending, a manager coming off a disaster makes much more sense than someone coming off a success.

I dont understand this cutting back spending after we have just been given £70 million for staying up?, Mark Hughes is now 1/12 to get the job and the bookies always know first, its happening people whether we like it or not, WE NEED TO BACK HIM NOW AND GET BEHIND THE CLUB!!!!

73, I know quite a lot about Ollie at Plymouth Argyle, the team was flying in the Championship, he wanted more from the board to really push for the PL, instead the board had a fire sale with all of his best players going for 'Argyle Prices' i.e., dirt cheap.

The board got greedy and put all of their eggs in the World Cup bid. Well it is a long story and it ended up in Administration, and a broke club.

Milo at Leicester tripled his wages, so yup he left. Don't blame him and more importantly, neither do the majority of Argyle supporters.

Same sort of thing at Blackpool, hands tied by a (very) strange chairman, competing in the PL with a wage cap of £10k PW.!!!

Yes I am a big fan of Ollie in terms of his attitude and enthusiasm. As a QPR fan living in Croydon, Palace going up was a bit of a personal disaster for me (especially with us going the other way) but I couldn't help but be happy for him.

Sincere commiserations if it is true guys. If he does half the job for you that he did for us, you will be down by Xmas. He was truly appalling for us. Nonetheless, I hope it works out for you, although I think you will ache for the return of the (possibly) dull but stable Pulis era.

even if we go down I will never ache to watch the dross that Pulis served up. Time to get behind Hughes and give him a chance!!!

Can someone explain to me what difference direction he will bring? I retract my last post.

I was happy to change the manager and try and play better football and accept the consequences. I was sick and tired of the way we played and of hearing the pain in Ivan Gaskell's voice on Final Score whenever he covered a Stoke game or the pre match write ups from the MOTD commentators trying to convince themselves they were going to see a good game. I was sick of every reporter on any match slagging us off because it was, unfortunately, all true. We are Stoke and we don't care had lost a lot of its shine for me. I did care and I cared what others said about the club I support.

But if we are going to play in a similar way then you may as well stick with the devil you know. I am not happy to change the manager and not change the way we play. Talk about be careful what you wish for............

I hope Sparkplug proves me wrong or I hope that this is not as done a deal as the bbc suggest

Other than his time at QPR, he has had a pretty decent managerial career. Did wonders with Blackburn and was meeting expectation at Man City until the owners stabbed him in the back, and built on what Roy Hodgson did at Fulham. Don't forget that QPR were in a mess when i took over and saved them from relegation when appointed. Don't let the media propaganda spin suck you into the fact he is a decent manager <ok>

    As Ricc says,

Whoever walks through the door as the next manager needs our full support, lets give him a chance before we condemn him.

dont judge a book by his cover i say....get behind him 100% is the way to go.....Brendan rodgers was crap at reading and had the push but when he came to us he excelled and is now the liverpool manager doing very well in his first season......you may be surprised what he can do but dont expect anything other than a mid table team as like most of us we are or will never be a big top club like the manchester clubs or chelsea, liverpool and arsenal...
