I'd be surprised if Vaughan would turn down a chance to play in the PL because he is homesick for the North. If that is the case, however, then his commitment sounds questionable. I also can't see City signing Arter from League 1 with the limited squad places there are available. Big, big step, IMO.
With the resources we have now, I would be rather hacked off if were going for players like arter and McCann for a midfield that needs serious quality added to it, it's all about quality not quantity this window. 3-4 more players max. I think the McCann link is just lazy journalism from last summer and I hope it is.
An outside chance of landing Lukaku on loan? IMO Luis Alberto would solve our Wing issues very well indeed...http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/luis-alberto/profil/spieler_128220.html
As far as I'm aware, Supers is the most 'ITK' on this board and I'm prepared to trust him entirely on his knowledge of James Vaughan!
I think a lot of the 'rumours' like Arter and McCann are from bored journalists with nothing to do now the season has finished. Most in the media think we have no money, Shearer's comment on MotD is a prime example 'four million is a lot to Norwich'. They don't really care about Norwich as a club, we're just there to make up the numbers as far as they're concerned, and as a result they do little if any research into the club. Therefore they are unaware that we are now debt free and the bulk of the TV money from next season will be going into the playing budget. This lack of knowledge, coupled with Lambert's penchant for lower league players means that the natural assumption of any journalist is that we'll sign cheapish, lower league players. While I don't think we have another Van Wolfswinkel-esque signing coming in the summer, we have more money than most think, we just haven't been shouting about it.
Alex Pearce from Reading? Been with us before; widely considered to be too good for the championship and (despite the rumoured links) too cheap for liverpool's board and fans to accept.
I actually like Alex Pearce, think he is a good centreback. I think Turner, Bassong and Bennett are more than good enough to go in next season. I agree though we could do with a another centreback to offer more competition, Alex Pearce would be very good for that.
Perhaps I should look at transfers beyond our own club once in a while. He'll probably be a solid signing, he seems to be a bit hot-headed though.
Alex Peace is also out of contract, would tick lots of boxes and be a nice replacement for Barney, plus we might make some money out of the deal.
With all these comments about disappointment if we sign someone from the lower leagues I just wonder how arrogant we have become. Yes I know people will say it shows no drive ambition and the like, but there are plenty of very good players in there that aren't overpriced or overrated. Now I expect we will sign other players from Europe and the like, but don't forget the league clubs after all our squad on a very limited budget was put together primarily from lower league players, so mix in a couple from abroad and a couple of rising stars and I think the future could be very bright indeed!
Man U signed Zaha from the champ and also a young striker from league one, sorry cant remember his name, so they still look down? There are still quality players in the champ who can easily make the step up, we must not become to short sighted by arrogance .
nick powell isn't jacob butterfield supposed to be like this? the difference with man u is they are already have a top quality squad and are adding a few players to it, let's be honest if they don't work out probably won't matter. we probably have more of a need to add 2 or 3 quality players i get the point though about lower league players
Hmm, apparently Porto have just sold a pair of midfielders to Monaco for a combined £60m. That might scupper a move for any other Porto midfielders.
Yeah, just saw that DH. Think Defour was a bit of a long-shot for us anyway but this should properly put an end to the speculation, surely.
