The gap at the moment is 11 points.

Arguably a whole season of Sturridge and Coutinho, on current form, is worth maybe 6-9 extra points.

Without personal blunders - thinking Skrtel v Man City and the referee v Everton - we'd have maybe 4 extra points.

To be honest it seems like without that awful start to the year we could actually be right up there right now.

Of course with issues of personnel leaving, rivals strengthening, form, injuries etc we need to strengthen the defence regardless, and add another option in attack.

I'm usually a pessimist, not sure why I'm so positive today <yikes>

What about the chunk of the season with out Lucas?

Gerrard in DM, Allen CM, Shelvey AM. Gerrard wasnt at his world class best until Lucas was back. He wasnt getting involved in attacks. I think he had 1 goal before Lucas got back. He now has 7. A lot of people were judging Gerrard badly whilst Lucas was out. Once Lucas was back, world class.

  4. I don't agree with looking at injuries, suspension and form etc when judging how good a squad is. All team suffer from these problems and that is why it is a squad game. when I said eleven players above, I didn't mean a whole new first team, I meant to strengthen the squad to achieve two strong players per position.

Even better... undoubtedly Lucas gave us more options. Still don't think he's at the level he reached in the 2011-2012 season before his injuries started, however.

If/When a new CB comes in, if that CB proves to be a success, then we may look at (the player himself) moving him on in the January Window, until then, I'd keep Skrtel.
With Carra retiring, it would be foolish to get rid of the only other CB we have with Premiership experience and leave just Agger + New CB and relatively inexperienced CBs of Wisdom and Kelly as cover.

I think Rodgers will really push for a 27-31 year old CB for experience.

Albiol's father played lower league football for Benidorm so Albiol should be used to English culture already... <cheers><ale><bubbly>

  14. Agger and Skrtel (if he stays) are both 28.

He can't get into the team ahead of a 19 year old (who, to be fair is bloody good) and Pepe (who, to be fair is horrendous!)
I'd rather keep Skrtel than waste money on Albiol.

yes. But I'm really not sure what Rodgers thinks of Skrtel. Plus Carragher's experience will be a huge loss.

  17. You will have to be blind to have not seen that I think Skrtel is already gone <laugh>

It won't. Please stop with this myth about Carragher's "experience" & "organization skills". He has been absolutely dreadful since he came back into the team and has cost us so many points with his mistakes.
