I thought it was reported that Toby A had agreed to go to Roma? Was that not true then?

I think the point he was trying to make was if he went to City he might just be used from the bench now and then but he wants to go to a team where he is more likely to play near on every week (performance permitting).

Not seen miuch of him so no idea what he's like as a player to be honest but playing for Ajax who have been in champ league suggests he must be pretty decent.

  3. Roma was a reported interest but nothing concrete.

I still think the bench comment lacks ambition but, as I said before, I admire his will to play (if true)

Watching FA Cup and wondered what people thought of Callum McManaman, MOM at the moment IMO. Good pacey winger, nice skills, not afraid to take players on; only down sides he can be a bit greedy and his finishing will need work (and he's a boyhood Everton fan, but that never stopped Carra).
But consider him playing instead of Downing.

I think we have got to sign Callum McManaman!

He is perfectly suited to our style. Pace, comfortable on the ball, excellent dribbling skills. He went past some of those world class City players with ease at times. His movement from the right is also just what we lack from Downing. Bending his run inside and getting in the box like Coutinho and Henderson do for us from the left. His has the confidence and belief to run at and get the ball past defenders and get in the box. Getting at defenders and getting in the box is just what Downing doesnt and should do.

I'm not selling McMannaman as a world class player here and he wouldnt walk into our first 11 but he is a good fit to our style and would be an improvement to our squad.

Right now he could add depth and competition for places. But at 22 he could grow into a very useful Benayoun/Garcia type player.

Fee wouldnt be to high either. Especially if Wigan go down.

Also. He is a scouser and called McManaman.

Edit: He is a distant relative of Steve McManaman.

Gotta say, I think we should be signing players who can do that. The squad will build itself if you sign first team players.

Honestly, I think he would with the current players we've got. He is far better than Downing, who is currently our 1st choice RW (despite the fact he is complete **** and doesn't deserve to be). You can't say someone wouldn't be in our 1st XI when Downing is playing regularly.

I say build with the idea of two quality players in every position (plus a few extra). Meaning you will be thinking of a team having 22 playerslus a few extra). McManaman looks good to go in a 22. If you think of just 11 you wont cope with injuries and suspensions. We already have quality in his position for the first 11, but do we quite double up? no.

    He is also young.

    Also, see below.

Ahead of Downing yes. So now whilst Suarez is out, yes.

    But:

    ---------------Coutinho-------------------
    ---Suarez--------------------Henderson---
    ---------------Sturridge-------------------

Callum McManaman would be an atrocious signing. He is just the flavor of the month at the minute, he is nothing more than an average English winger like Shaun Wright-Phillips, Wayne Routledge & Nathan Dyer. He is a one-trick pony and will be found out soon enough.

He also has a history of thuggish behavior including one incident where he seriously injured a player. I saw him celebrating with a bottle of alcohol after the game today as well. This is not the kind of player that we want at our club.

Thomas Ince is a far superior player & a far greater man.

Would prefer Ince to McManaman as Ince knows the club already, but neither are world class players just average young Prem. players who may or may not improve.

I have not seen enough of Ince to judge.

Above I did not mean to write nephew, i meant to write distant relative... Not a logical mistype but you know what I'm like.

Saying I think we have 'got to'sign Mcmanaman was probably an over statement. I would have said it if we were in the Champions League and had a huge budget. But we dont have either of those those. McManama could be a very useful addition and will only get better with age.

How many genuine top quality English/British players are there who could be playing in Europe or could have in the last 10 years? Probably less than 10. We simply don't coach young players well enough in this country. McManaman might be a good player, but he's never going to be good enough to grace Europe because very few British players are, and that's not the type of player we want/need. We need players who are going to be good enough to compete against European teams. Invest in dutch, spanish and german players. Even the belgians are better than us!

He'd cost what, 15mill? We can buy foreign but more technical and superior players for that, probably even two of them.

England has produced plenty of top talent over the last 10 years.

I doubt Mcmanaman would cost that much at all. 22, only just broken into the Wigan team, no international caps or any thing like that. Now, £5-7m max. Maybe in a year or two he will be worth more.

Players capable of playing for the top teams in Europe? Hardly any.

Mcmanaman would cost a bucketload. Young, English, potential, contract not running out any time soon, Wigan don't want to sell...

Makes me wonder what Raheem's cost would be.

    £15m?

    #1737
  18. A realistic valuation would be about £7m-£8m IMO. However, I doubt we would sell for less than £15m and in consideration with others (McManaman @ £10m+, Ince @£12m & Zaha @ £15m) he is worth at least that too!

Dont get carried away with Mcmanaamaman just because of 2 good games, everyone was saying the same things about James Mcclean at Sunderland not long ago
