I should have added my mistake. My original point was that it's just fortunate for the Goons that they have a home game against a side that have had to play a physically & emotionally draining game, like the cup final, a very short period beforehand. Just have to hope Wigan have enough left to give.

I think it'll lift them. They might be tired, but they will be buzzing and will feel like they can beat arsenal.
Hopefully that fight will be enough to at least earn them a draw.

That **** Pardew has basically thrown the towell in for the season, so we're getting nothing from Newcastle! ...unless the players think "right, I'm working my balls off today to get a transfer out of this club". - that's possible I suppose.

I don't think Pardew meant that as it sounds. He means that PL survival was his priority and nothing else matters including the last match of the season against whoever it is. The last match is nothing in comparison to survival for him so I don't think that he has capitulated to Arsenal already. Newcastle have had some interesting matches against them ie 0-4 to 4-4 so it's up in the air.

Wigan's chairman has said that Everton isn't a big enough club for Martinez. That sort of conceit can only lead to ruin. Wigan are perennial relegation battlers and a move to Everton to me seems too big a move for him. I don't know what's made him so big headed.

Now that Ferguson is out of the way the top becomes more open and also with Mancini gone. I feel Liverpool might feature more strongly next season as I think we will.

I'll be going off line after the Sunderland match as I have nothing to post in the close season and no other sport matches football for me even though I'm not the most knowledgeable or keen supporter of it. O.Spurcat said he's going to Palace reserves or somewhere,Christ, that's keenness for you and far far deeper than I could ever go and it's the same with most of you lads too. I admit I'm the dunce.

Anyway what an interesting last week this will be,all I can say is COME ON YOU SPURS. Come on Wigan and Newcastle.

Probably be a good move. Another 5-6 years of Pardew and they could be looking forward to exciting trips to exotic places, like Workington & Vauxhall Motors in the Northern Conference. <laugh>

No Roo. I don't know too much about the players who have come in like Holtby,I'd never heard of him before or Malaga's coach who might take over at City so the new players I will know nothing about so I can't really comment on them. I'l know more soon because I'm going back to England from Italy where I'll be nearer the action. Till then I'm in the dark a lot.

Wigan will be up for the game, given it's importance. They would yield easily if it was a mid table clash, but winning the cup may actually be a good thing for them, giving them confidence going into the last game.

Its a bit of a disaster for us that Wigan need two wins. If they are drawing with 10 mins to go they need to take risks and will likely lose!

Agreed, because of their GD, were Newcaslte to draw or lose against QPR it would've made a point look decent for Wigan as it's turned out it's a bit of a nightmare, Pardew's already thrown in the towel for their game which is just bizarre.

I wouldn't worry too much. They will be at least 2 goals down by the 80th minute :)

Or given the goons defence, they will likely score. It is sitting back that is the biggest danger for Wigan. Kone and McManaman could cause a lot of problems for Mertesaker and Gibbs/Monreal?

I wouldn't put too much money on that, if I were you. Wigan can play a bit, as we saw on Saturday. And, they're fighting for their premiership lives. I would take them very seriously indeed.

Maloney, McCarthy and McManaman have a lot of quality in midfield and will create chances. The real issue is whether the Wigan defence can avoid conceding two or three goals as they regularly do in the PL.

Yeah. As has been said, it's unfortunate or us that they pretty much have to win. But, there again, Wigan always come to play. We can only hope that they've got enough left in the tank after Saturday.

  18. Hey, TMT! Playing the ITK game is a fantastic pastime! You don't need to have any inside knowledge, either, just a little of commonsense. In fact, the less you know the better, since that more than likely means that no one else knows, so you cannot easily be challenged.

Here, I'll give you an example, to get you up and running.

We all know that Rooney wants out of United, right? He only lasted so long at United because of Fergie's influence, but the word is that he's not best pleased about Moyes coming in. I have a friend who's 12 year old son is a ball-boy at Goodison Park, and he over-heard a conversation between a couple of insiders (he won't mention any names because he'd be in trouble), and they were saying that they'd heard from a reliable source at OT that Rooney would walk in the Summer and that his preferred choice would to move down to London, in order to avoid the inevitable death-threats from irate fans. The word was that he'd love to come to Spurs, but he was acutely aware that wages would be a stumbling block. The same ball-boy source reckons, however, that Levy is doing all he can to get the deal done.

There! See how easy it is, TMT! It's fun, too. You've got to give it a try, mate.

Pardew has attempted to clarify his comments:

"I know people will have picked up on my comments about not caring about the result against Arsenal, which were, of course, a joke.
"It is definitely not the case that I would be happy for us to lose 4-0 against Arsenal on Sunday. I simply want our players and fans to be able to enjoy the game without looking over their shoulders.
"Even though we are now safe, we will be putting in the same effort that we would for any other Premier League game.
"Our last two results at St James' Park - against Sunderland and Liverpool - have been nowhere near good enough, and Sunday gives us the chance to put that right.
"We want to end the season on a positive, to finish in as high a position as possible and to give the fans something to cheer about on the final day of what has been a frustrating season.
"Arsenal will be doing everything they can to try and achieve a Champions League spot and we won't make it easy for them, make no mistake about that.
"This is a game everyone at this football club wants to win."
    "Please don't sack me. <wah> "

I may or may not have added a line to that... <whistle>
