Hardly surprising, though. Piskie thinks that the worst thing that Wigan could do is to play an open, attacking game, as it would play right into Arsenal's hands. He also thinks that's exactly what they're going to do. Seems rather unlikely, in my opinion.
We will just have to agree to disagree but Martinez is very tactically astute, he will have watched videos of Arsenal's home games against City, United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton and identified the weaknesses. As LDL rightly points out Wigan can't defend for toffee so the likelihood is they'd have to score at least twice to come away with anything (but scoring isn't a problem for them to be honest). We are talking about a manager that has won at Anfield, The Emirates, White Hart Lane and Goodison Park within the last 14 months in addition to beating City at Wembley and Man U at home. Wigan didn't go gung-ho to beat any of them, they deployed similar tactics to those used against City. Wigan would need to be at their best and Arsenal to have an off day for it to happen though. What everybody that has played them recently has established is that they aren't easy. I'm just glad we played them home and away come February.
What I'm saying is that they won't simply be able to sit back, soak up the pressure and wait to hit us on the break. We could be out of sight if they allow us to play our game. I don't think either that they will simply throw caution to the wind and go for it, as equally they could get ripped apart on the counter, but I do think they won't have the luxury of approaching this game in the same way they did the City game in the Cup final. They will have to come out and try to attack us at some point as they HAVE to win to avoid relegation.
So they won't use the same tactics that they used against City because they need to win? Can you really not see a problem with that?
We all heard you the first 4 times, repeating your view over and over again doesn't make it seem any more credible. "There are 2 styles of playing a football match, if Wigan play in style A they will lose, if they play in style B they will lose" Cheers for your insightful comments which are a really good reflection of how football pans out in reality
Ancelotti has a release clause in his PSG contract for any offers from Real, so either... a.) PSG forgot this and hope he did too b.) The story is ever so slightly made up
I don't for a minute doubt you HBIC but this always makes me laugh a tad. Why on earth would anyone want details of their employment contract to be made public? You hear it in football on an almost daily basis. Problem is of course sometimes it's true and other time's it's absolute balls!
You're going round in circles PNP. The difference in this game is that they HAVE to win, the cup final they didn't. Therefore in that game they had the luxury of sitting back and waiting for an opportunity to arise, in this game they don't have that luxury.
Yes, I fear that I am. Their opponents also didn't have to win, when they do now. The other, more obvious, problem is that Wigan did win.
Jose can leave for Chelsea on July 1st but if he leaves a day sooner then we have to pay his buy out clause which Abramovich doesn't want to pay (understandably) so what needs to happen is for Real to line up a replacement and just sack him, that way Jose gets his package and can come home
Pure gold!...a very entertaining read the last couple of pages. Right there you have the worst analysis of a football match I have ever seen! Dear Wigan, save yer bus fare, whether you sit and defend or come out and attack, even if it its just once, you've lost.
