There is either a case of serious blind faith somewhere or a serious amount of assymetric information im missing?! We need to do as well as possible to draw in some world class players! Established players in their prime, we can sign as many Gastons as we like, we need some back bone who will play 7/10 every week with Cork and Schneid, and I have serious fears, much like Man City did last season, we will miss our top targets to other clubs.

We will win some and miss out on some.

FFS fella, are you just an unhappy type of person?

Do you sit back having just got laid, shake your head and say "****, I could have done that a bit better". Me, I enjoy the moment. Let's enjoy the moment now, knowing we'll be in the Premier League again. We have three months to debate what needs to be put right.

Of course you are right about the performances. I was confident we'd stay up and I am now delighted we are and can happily forgive not having beaten some of these teams and look forward with a positive outlook to next season in the Premier League. Why dwell and ponder now? I have learned this season that we have high aspirations as a club and we can now continue our preparations to achieve that.

Finally a rational answer! I can understand the over line feeling, as it is the first season. But it is these expectations that throw my mind all over the place. We certainly talk a lot of talk, and by all means play some very good football, but there is one statistic that counts and our points haul has been atrocious considering how many games we dominate, I usually hate the words 'possession football' as it implies by holding on to it you will win and I often feel we are guilty of this. We need Poch to bring players in who suit his style, obviously and guess we can regroup in pre season, but as far as this season goes, since beating Liverpool, we have looked like a team on their holidays, we miss a real bite to games and should definately have beaten atleast 1 of Sunderland, Norwich, Swansea, West Ham and West Brom.

We could do with actually putting the ball in the damn net. Our finishing has been absolutely woeful lately. We've dominated so many games and not won since Pochettino took over..it's criminal

So we correct that over the summer, by signing a player or two who can finish.

This is the last season that Lambert has a certain place on the teamsheet.

There's nothing virtual about it. If Villa lose their GD gets worse, not better.

But so can our GD. Like we're all saying, it is never going to happen. But in theory our GD could yet fall behind Villa's.

This is possibly the first time I've ever disagreed with Qwerty.

Exactly. But BBC don't seem to understand that - they have Norwich and Newcastle as SAFE; and Southampton as 'all but safe'. Their tables are unavailable, so can't check, but am sure that point put us 100% safe. Shame in the sense that we were looking good for a top half finish a while back before we forgot how to score, but still, any point above that line suits me.

Yes, I went off to check on their tables and thought... bloody typical, just when you really need to work things out. :)

An absurd goal difference swing could relegate us. It's practically impossible, but they can't say we're safe until it's a mathematical certainty.

It just annoys me how many of you act like we are the best team in the world in the week, we can sign anyone, stadium will be 50k etc, then after a good performance and not the result to match it, people say 'next year will be our year'.

And it depends on how much I have paid.

For everyone wondering about the chances of us going down, this is what would have to happen:
Wigan beat Arsenal and Villa.
We lose 13-0 to Stoke and Wigan beat Villa 1-0, or we lose 12-0 and Wigan beat Villa 4-3.
Will Stoke score 12 goals? No.

Job done!!! We can debate our obvious weaknesses but don't under estimate the achievement of staying in this league. We have made Ginormous steps in the last four seasons.

Tremendous effort by the players, the manager, the chairman and the rest of the staff at Southampton Football Club.

I know most people on here have moved on and are looking forward to an exciting future for our football club but I personally would like to say:

A big thank you to Nigel Atkins who served our club with great dignity and who's contribution was phenomenal to the position we find ourselves in today.

Exactly, just like you will never see them putting a 'C' or a 'P' or an 'R' next to anyone's name until it's 100% certain.

But 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% safe is enough for me!

It has been a very strange Premier, with a win in the last game for us we will have had a very good season indeed, a draw well not so good, and a defeat will be a very disapponting end to a poor season, it is that close.

Anyway, no need for too much of a panic I don't think. All this 13-0 talk is based on Wigan beating Arsenal for a start. Yes we have some weaknesses but there's three months to talk about those, and I've got better stuff to do right now. Newly promoted teams have definitely been known to have worse seasons than we have had.
