Syd : I don't call you childish or stupid or any of that. Mud-slinging doesn't interest me. And, for the record, I was bloody devastated when he left just like you. That really did hurt. But he's the best in the business, and if we want to move on, I just think we'd be silly not to talk to the man. Sometimes you've just got to bury the hatchet, y'know?

I can think and feel a lot of other things besides (I admit that) but if we want to move up that table, we need players as efficient as Darren Bent and there aren't too many of them around. I can't see around that logic.

If i had a lass who cheated on me, i'd never take her back, even if she was Cheryl Cole it would forever be tarnished.

Cheryl Cole is a lot better looking than Darren Bent.

On this basis, no thanks, **** you Darren you greedy robbing ****, i hope the Villa team falls apart around you (it's already happening), and i hope Bruce's daughter ****s of with a Spurs player.

    Twat.

I would rather spend the cash on Defoe who will be near Bent on his day but would offer more to the team

Affairs of the heart are not run like business. SAFC is a business.

    But football is a passion.

Bent's alienated the last 2 clubs he's been at, i wholeheartedly admit his quality as a goalscorer, but i still don't want him back.

It is but to us footy fans its heart that takes us to games, hearts that break in 5-1 defeats, hearts that make us cry when we go down, hearts that make us cry when we come back up and its my heart that decides who I cheer for. Its not Bent.

Never a truer word spoken Syd. Business is business but Sunderland are closer than family.

I honestly believe he'll be off again at the end of next year. If Downing and Young go without being replaced properly then Villa are going to have another disappointing year although somehow (like us) ended up in the top half.

He is second to none in terms of sheer natural goalscoring talent but when any player doesn't want to play for a club then they must be moved on. People have criticised Bruce and Quinn for not replacing him in January but we managed to finish top 10 without him and we still have the bulk of £24mil burning a hole in our pockets. Yes we would have liked to challenge for top 8 but I'm happy us taking our time. We've steadily improved and hopefully many a lesson has been learned by everyone at the club so we can push on for another top 8 challenge.

his love of the club and us the fans????????.
    He screwed us
His comparison with us and Villa at the time was down right offensive. I go along with every abusive comment about him on here and I hope Villa go down and take him with them.

He showed his love for club and fans didn't he, when he went on record as saying Villa were better than us and all that.

Had to abandon this thread and go out yesterday, but it’s been on my mind ever since. It reminded me of something I’d long forgotten. I was at the Stoke game in 2005, when they handed out the Championship medals. Everybody around me was on their feet, jigging about, cheering and clapping – and I sat there gobsmacked at them. I’ve never in my life celebrated Sunderland being champions of the second-raters. All I could think as they handed those medals out was’which stupid b**tard put us there?’ And yet thousands that day would agree with Black Cat Kiwi that “Sunderland are closer than family”. Thousands who agree with Syd that there’s some sort of emotional tie. And it isn’t for me to belittle that.

But it’s a fans view only. Family? - when the Sunderland in Africa guys wrote to the club, they couldn’t even be bothered to reply. Some family! If they can buy Bent back, they will. Because Bent will score goals, and that will get us a higher position. And come the day when Barcelona are playing a European tie at the SoL, it won’t matter a damn that Syd has sent his season ticket back, because someone else’s backside will be filling his seat. And that’s what we are to the club – bums on seats. We’re not family. What we are is paying customers at an entertainment event. SAFC doesn’t give a damn for us any more than Michael Jackson cares who buys tickets for his concerts. As long as the hall is full, that’s what counts. Cruel world – but that’s the entertainment industry, and that’s professional sport.

I’d forgotten how many people were genuinely emotionally attached. And I’m grateful to you guys for reminding me.

I agree with you mate and I dont see the club, thats the players, manager,Quinn as part of the family, they come and go, its the fans and history, the club not the clubs employees.

I accept that because they come and go they will never have the emotional attachment that I do, I'm stuck here regardless. What I do want from the employees is a little honesty, Zenden sums it up to me. He wants to stay and play for us, not through love but because he likes it here. If he cant get the games he wants he will leave, honest and upfront. He played at West Ham, knowing it would be his last game and gave 100%, now he will leave and will leave with my gratitude and will be welcome back anytime.

Bent, for all his goals, left in the wrong way and betrayed me, for that reason he wont be welcome back by me. If he came back I will continue to support the club, cant help that, but they will no longer get my money towards Bents wages. Will they miss me, no, but thats not the point.

Bent was an amazing striker and still is to be honest. He is amongst the best in Europe and deserves top play for England on merit and has done for 2 years now.

However, as with many sentiments I hate the bastard with a passion and wish him nothing but bad luck every week. He **** on a great club, manager and especially fans that threw him a life line when he was drowning and his deceitful and disgusting treatment of this club, should ensure he is given the 'very worst of welcomes' when next he visits our stadium. I want to see this Judas bastard physically **** himself, as he walks out to take his place at the SOL.

I wouldn't have him back for nowt and no wages but I do want to offer his replacement all the support possible. Unlike SKP or Marco who also left the club, they did it with dignity and will be legends for life. Bent is just a twat.

Plainly and simply I miss his goals.

I would not have him back, the words "bed" and "sleep" spring to mind.

However, Bents return will only happen shortly after the British Isles slides off the edge of this flat earth.

Again this is one of those self flagellating threads, next article should be "If we signed Messi, how much would we sell him for?"

Oh my god, haven't you heard? He's just done a sell-out concert featuring 42 harpists. Stunning dance routines, some of them featuring flight with a winged ballerina. I couldn't make it - well, not quite yet.

    Ach, get on with you!!!!!!!

Bent is a two faced mercenary best left where he is. Even if he did agree to return we'd never know when he would do the same again should a "better offer" came along. Like many supporters I can't wait for his return to the SOL so that I can join 30,000 other Sunderland in giving him the reception that he deserves.
