but who is our main striker? aluko would of been our top goal scorer by far but hes not a striker and i hope to god hes not played there in the prem. fryatt i dont rate for championship let alone prem, disregard my opinion and do you really see fryatt scoring enough goals to keep us in the prem? simpson obviously not, prossie? obviously not, boyd? again not a striker. koren? also not a striker.
now given that we currently have 0 pl ready strikers in our squad, if we dont find a prolific pl proven or ready striker to bang our goals in it will be worse than this season. our squad as whole has not chipped in with enough goals in the championship, so logic tells me they wont in the pl...
Isnt Aluko going into the last year of his contract with us? Pretty sure he just signed a 2 year deal.
Completely agree about not having a main striker, Fryatt seems to have become much better in the eyes of many since he has been injured but we were all calling for strikers 2 years ago. I think a three in behind of Brady, Aluko and one other would definitely chip in with goals and then Meyler offers a great threat and possibly another new CDM would as well. However, we certainly need a main striker up top to do a finishers job and move the opposition defence.
To be fair - we got an automatic slot without really having a main striker. Most of the attacking players we have are better suited to the 'Support' striker role.
Bruce definitely needs to sort this area out.
Well if you're going for 4231 you're 3rd behind the striker with Brady and Aluko is going to be Koren. He's the whole reason we adopted the system under Barmby despite not having a single striker that was suited to playing up front on their own.
fryatt did get better the longer he was out. before he got injured it was agreed by most we needed a better striker than fryatt, he got injured and suddenly he was a fantastic championship striker... did i miss something he fluffed way to many when he had his chance hes just terrible. i do belive he would of been our top scoring *actual* striker but thats not saying much is it... hes a mid table champ player nothing more. the reason i say this is hes not a great a finisher and hes got nothing else to his game. thats also the only reason i rate simpson (also ****e) higher than him, purely on the fact he has a better all round game than fryatt.
koren is our best player in that postion i dont belive he has the legs for it in the prem tho...
I think it will be a new signing/loan as Koren is getting on in terms of playing in the prem. However, I'm not sure if Aluko would be the central one or the right wing as that would affect the signings.
in order of priority we need:
2 pl ready strikers WHO WILL SCORE GOALS
2 good goalkeepers (stockdale does not count as 1)
1 new good cm who will start most games
a proven lb (i like dudge but i honestly dont think he will be ready for prem) so we need a solid option there for if it turns out he isnt..
a cb to be starter
a rb again i think rosie is pl quailty but if hes not we need good depth there (please dont suggest playing elmo rb in the prem hes a winger by nature, or macca)
another cm
a winger to contend with brady/elmo/aluko/boyd (i would play both more central) for starting pos
another cb if chester proves not up to it (hes not looked great this season at times as he)

Think this is a fairly reasonable assessment. I am hoping that Meyler, Brady and Quinn will step up their game and be great players, Aluko is a bit of a gamble, remember Cameron Stewart, he might have caught what he had and not be half the player we remember.
Elmo has been pretty poor for the last couple of months and if I am honest we seriously need to invest in players who can make a real difference. I feel like we were better positioned last time with the squad. Players like Ricketts, Turner, Myhill have stood the test of time, and we had experience in the likes of Barmby of Ash.
This time we are going up with a few kids with a lot of pottential, some loan players who couldn't get into the sunderland team, and some average players at best.
I'm not saying anything new, we all knew we had to buy, I just think some on here are not quite aware of how far we have to go.
stewert is a another useful sqaud member lets hope he can come good, elmo has looked poor i agree, hes also looked great at times. thats why i say we need another winger for in case he turns out to be ****e. but there are other areas that need more focus in improving imo. i hope all our plays turn out to be good enough lets all hope light the prem up i dont see that happening tho.
Aluko unproven. Elmo and Meyler will do a job, no doubt. Brady probably as will Rosenior. Can;t see anything stopping Aluko being a revelation, but the former are players that have form. Macca with no red mist will be a serious asset too.
A fit and focussed Dudge has the world at his feet also, albeit with a lot to prove. Boyd has the ability but would do well to learn from Koren. If Boyd can impose himself then there will be no issue. If he has to learn to choose his moment then Koren is his perfect mentor.

elmo has looked poor in parts and good in other hes by no means a fantatstic winger but a good one sure.... stewart im not saying start him but i can think of worse players than him to have as a back up winger. brady/elmo/new winger/aluko/boyd/stewart i can think of worse than that.... it looks ok
You must not be talking about the same Stewart that only managed 18 games all season in the championship. Have we signed another Stewart that I dont know about that plays on the wing? There is just no way you are talking about Cameron Stewart because I could probably not think of anyone worse on our books lately who plays wing.
do you lot have any idea of what squad consists of??? **** me find me a 5th choice winger on a better level than stewart. im not saying he is good enough nor that he should/will start games for us..... but as 5th choice *thats 4other players ahead of him in the pecking order* he is a good squad addition!!! also lets not forget hes a young kid he might come good yet who knows?
Stewarts recent record speaks for itself. We should have cashed in when Leicester were interested in hindsight. **** for us in his last months. Not good enough for a start at mid-table Burnley. Not good enough for as start at joke club Blackburn. Skillful yes, but lightweight and can't impose himself when things are going against him. Will be a good top of league 1 - to good Championship winger, with a bit of experience and consistency, in the right setup. If he fills out might make it into the prem one day but no-where near at the moment.
i do agree however like i said find a better 5th choice winger? hes still a young kid i dont see no harm in keeping him, loaning him out with a recall clause, and ensuring we have him to use if worst comes to worst and i will stress again *our other 4wingers (or players able to fill in there) are unavailable* also on another note as with any attacking player confidence is a big thing and they will have good and bad spells all wingers do this. on an even more sour note if aluko does light up the prem could we lose him to the acon's?
