Only if you judge a player purely on stats~!

He's scored 34 goals in the top flight and 106 goals in the second tier, with only 20 of his goals being in the lower leagues.

I know these are just more stats, but the fact is that they conclusively prove that he scores goals at this level(and above it) and that's what a striker's supposed to do. To claim that he's not very good, despite his stats proving otherwise, is slightly bizarre.

You are right that he's only on the bench at Forest, though when he's come of it, he's scored 5 in 15 appearances for them this season.

Would think his bench warming is something to do with his attitude rather than ability

5 in 15 appearances thats good we should sign that lad from Ipswich who has scored 5 in 16!!

Someone claiming to know Dean Ashton's aunties dogs next door neighbours best friend etc, has stated on football rumours that we've offered Dean Ashton a return to football on a pay as you play basis.

Are we interested in all of Notts Forest's strikers or something? :emoticon-0112-wonde Earnshaw wouldn't be a bad signing, though i think we're crying out for a target man tbh, but if Earnshaw can fit into our plans then we might as well go for him. Agree with TWF for once on the midfield side of things, though hopefully with Cameron Stewart coming back in about September some of the creativity will be back that we missed in the last 2 months of the season. Hopefully with a few tweaks our midfield will be just about right <cheers>

Dean Ashton would be an incredible signing for us, if he had stayed fit I think he would be leading Englands attack right now, who knows a few years off might have done the trick for him, its not unknown in sport. Terrible shame for the lad having to retire like that.

As said above, this would be a fantastic signing. However how likley is it really? I thought he was told he would never be able to play full blow sport again due to his knees wearing away?

As Ashton has retired won't he have received an insurance payout? I remember someone in the Conference a few years ago had retired from football and received a payout. His side got promoted and had to give him a free transfer because if he played in the league he'd have to repay the payout. (I'm thinking Gabbiadini but I don't know why)

Can't see an England international being paid up retiring so young fancying giving back his payoff for a pay as you play contract.

EDIT: Apparently it was Ian Clarkson, and Kidderminster paid the insurance back for him and kept him so I've really no idea why Marco Gabbiadini and leaving on a free entered my head. I guess it might have happened more than once.

Has anyone seen jay bothroyd, has been released, think he would be worth a punt depending on his wages, and a more of a arial threat to compliment our other strikers....
