The results of our annual Board review were published some time ago but because I was at that time serving a ban, I didn't have the chance to comment. I'd like to take the opportunity to do so now. I have always had the utmost respect for Brixton and all of his various serving Deputies since he took office as Moderator of our Board. However, I believe that he has let the members down in respect to the process that he instigated a couple of months ago with regards to Forum moderation. I firmly believe now that the whole thing was a sham from start to finish. I smelled a rat early on and highlighted my concerns (a number of others did also) and I was reassured that nothing would be done to change the Forum unless the members gave their express wishes for such changes. We were also given assurances that the principles with which this Board was hitherto run (free speech, due process etc) would not be tinkered with in any form unless another accommodation, such as an off-topic Sub Forum, was established to counteract any tightening up of the rules on the main Board. It was with a great deal of horror that I found out that neither of these conditions were adhered to by the Moderator upon compiling his report and installing his new, draconian measures. I've lost count in my head the amount of posters who voiced concerns about changing the rules and over-sanitising the Board, on the various threads set up by the Moderation team ostensibly to gauge the opinion of Board members but in reality to provide themselves with a smoke-screen in order to ram through legislation which would give them power beyond which is right and proper on a fans-forum situation such as we have here. Notwithstanding the grievous assault on the democratic principles that we all espouse in this Cyber-Community of ours but the fact that the Moderator (no doubt aided and abetted by his then Deputy NUTS) did all this whilst trying to appear like he was giving us all a choice in the matter, makes the whole thing stink of hypocrisy. Reading all the new rules that had been "agreed" upon, I wondered if our Board would ever be the same again and if perhaps this was the death knell of what had become a vibrant and positively enthralling on-line network of like minded people who thrive on the excitement of passionate discussion and captivating debate. Gentlemen (and Beth.....and Flyer), I'm afraid we've been sold down the river by those whom we trusted so much. To those of you who mourned at the passing of Baroness Thatcher three weeks ago, fear not. For her legacy lives on right here under your nose and I fear it will not be long before this Community goes the way of so many others that were trampled on by the power lusting Sultans in their quest for total domination.
swords why are you that bothered about it that you have to do a thread like this. you should of sent this as PM to Brix if you needed to make this point.
With respect Andy, but you're totally missing the point. The whole process was supposed to be open and frank and about us, the members. If we can't have an open and frank discussion about the results, where does that leave this Board?
you only need to worry about the rules mate if you break them 90% of posters on here dont need to worry about the rules just be nice
Do like a challenge Swords, especially from you! Before we get into what the Review was actually about, have to caution you. With this OP you're risking judgement on one or more of the following uncontested offence definitions: ⢠WUM(ING) (Wind-Up Merchant): Vexatious banter. Comments made with the intention to cause disruption by goading others. (Goad means to provoke or annoy (someone) so as to stimulate actions or reactions.) ⢠BAITING: Selectively challenging a named user / poster into a direct response. Considered over-personal and a form of bullying. ⢠TROLLING: Practice of posting a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument. Which one shall we test first? Of course there is another way round it. You can try to oust me. Here's the new procedure. Procedure a) PM the Mods PM the mod(s) in question (copying in the other mod(s)) starting your concerns and asking for their acknowledgement and agreement to improve on their performance relating to your expressed concerns. b) Seek Support from the Members If such agreement fails to materialise or you are simply not satisfied with the response received or lack of it, open a thread entitled, âNo Confidenceâ stating your concerns and see if you have enough support to move to the next stage. c) Confirm the Support Time for a Poll asking the following questions: For the reasons given in my thread, I propose that [mod name(s) here] should resign as mod(s) with immediate effect. a) Agree? b) Disagree? c) Donât care? c) Await the Outcome The mod(s) in question will soon see from the Poll the extent to which users have lost confidence the them. It shouldnât take a majority vote to confirm whether itâs time to step down, even a small number of detractors can fragment board harmony. Where a mod resigns their position, a replacement will be selected by the remaining mod(s). Where all existing mods appear to have lost the confidence of the board, one will have to notify the SuperMod. The SuperMod will then arrange for the appointment of replacements. Feeling lucky today matey?
A number of others did what? Thought it was a sham? Smelled a rat? Highlighted their concerns? You need to be more specific. Quote them please so I can judge for myself.
Better still, check my past threads for ALL the review based ones. That'll give you the numbers of who said what. Starts here: http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...on-the-Ball-Moment-Advice-on-Direction-Needed Oh, wait a mo! I'm responding to Swords like he's seriously doing anything more than yet another bit of attention seeking...
Strange thread. I'm not getting involved except to say, Swords, spit it out. Sounds like you are bitter about something.
Change the record Swords, most on here have noticed no real change from the 'changes', cut the personal insults and you may not be spending so much time banned...
If you smell a rat Swords ... Check your own pants first ... Have you changed your tena lady knickers this month ? Nowt wrong with the world at the moment apart from QPR
Sorry late to the thread...as usual. Swords... I have noticed no real change, The forum poll, gotta agree with sooper....nothings really changed.... Brixton is no "Big Brother", your fundamental human rights have not been affected. I think we are all happy here (with the obvious proviso that we have had a **** season following a c*** team). Swords give it a rest
Swordsie, I'm the first to admit that many things simply pass me by, so can you please tell me what draconian measures have been installed?
Swords...............from the responses to your wind up, it's clear that it's just you that has a problem. No doubt there'll be one other who agrees with you (We'll see). Nothing has changed for me since the review. I haven't had to change anything about what I post or the way I post it. You should simply not bother posting any more. You don't like it clearly and trust me, you won't be missed.
Nice one Swords. Reminds me of Cerny, but slightly better written. Paranoia central or a calculated wind up, either way its a waste of space.
Can honestly say that I haven't noticed any change, and to be even more honest, I don't know what the changes actually were..... If fact, being blatantly honest..I couldn't give a T*SS... Lighten up pal !
